Stripped Oil Drain Plug Question

Hi, I stripped the engine block oil drain plug but I was able to get it off with vise grips and reinstall it with vise grips and finish my oil change. I now have a replacement. I want to swap out the stripped one with the new one (very quick swap). I will catch any oil that comes out when I swap them in a clean container and return it to the reservoir after the swap.
Will I create any air lock by doing this? I am only swapping out the engine block drain plug. Thanks in advance.

No it won;t create an air lock. Personally, I wouldnt reuse that oil as it will be nearly impossibly for it not to have picked up some grit or other contaminate. Maybe save it for your lawnmower or something.

Nope NOair lock, And remember the stock plug is a allen, Not a torx.

I am not the original owner and the plugs I have are torx, that's how I stripped one. Thanks for your relies.

I concerned that I may not have gotten the stripped plug tight enough using vise grips. Hard to attach a torx wrench to vise grips:banghead:

Have another look at those plugs. The factory ones are definitely allen head. Seems odd that the previous owner changed them to torx. I believe most aftermarket plugs are hex head.

Yep, these are the ones I ordered, thanks. Some members have voiced concerns about these because they are not recessed and if you bottom out they will ruin your engine block?? I have the :ani29: three years and haven't even come close to bottoming out. I am going to go with them.
