Hello! Just introducing myself

Welcome aboard. I'll let my wife, Bruisersbaby, fill you in on her Spyder experience.

Hi! So happy to hear that you're joining a fun group of people. My experience - never rode nor was a passenger (except just once when I was 18) on any kind of motorcycle. Bruiser bought the RT in 2010, the first year they came out. I really enjoyed being a passenger, and then he asked me if I wanted to learn how to ride. I was hesitant at first, but took my time, rode on back roads, and asked lots of questions. I did take the MSF course, but didn't pass. It was okay, though. I continued to get more saddle/seat time until I was confident last month to take the test at DMV. I had already taken the written test last year when I got my learner's permit. Went to our DMV, the examiner told me she wanted to know about brakes, turn signals, horn - making sure they were in working order. Then, she told me to ride around the parking lot twice, and on the second time around, she would put up her hand for me to stop. I went around the parking lot, in first gear all the way, and stopped when she said. That was my Spyder test!! We have been through a lot in the past years, as many here have been, but it is a freedom that no one can explain. Take your time, enjoy the learning experience, and the results will be so rewarding. By the way, I'll be 61 in August! God bless and ryde on, syster!!

Thanks, Bruiser! I'm a little nervous about that fact, but at the same time, I do look forward to it. I got a lot of looks and comments when driving my Datsun 280Z, so I'll definitely have to get used to it when I get my :ani29:. I look forward to hearing about Bruisersbaby's experiences! Oh, look... there she is! LOL!

No, you're not alone! We are all here to support and encourage you, and try to answer any questions you may have. Yes, Bruiser was a great support, but Spyderlovers and especially Girls on Spyders on Facebook, were great during my learning period! If the instructors are anything like I had for my MSF, it will be a fun weekend, even though you'll be TIRED when you finish. :2excited:for you!

Thank you for what you said, and you're absolutely right! I'm not alone anymore! I am truly grateful for the warm welcomes because I finally feel like I have someone to share my excitement with. I only have a couple of RL biker friends, so most of friends either don't know what I'm doing, or don't get it. I'm so glad I found SpyderLovers!

Welcome. A motorcycle was on my bucket list also. I had never rode a bike,driver or passenger, but it always looked like fun. I bought mine a year ago and I have never regretted it. It is one of the most enjoyable things that I have ever done. I am one of those who pays through the nose for a maintenance visit. I am charged $100.00 extra because I bought the bike from another dealer. The closest dealer is 1 hr and 15 minutes away. I smile as I write the check. The Spyder and the people you meet are one of a kind. Can't wait until you tell us the color you selected.:clap:

That's awesome! I've seen several guys on here talking about riding behind their ladies, and it's cracking me up. My daughter will be riding behind me, and we're both crazy excited!

Welcome to our little corner of the web. As you are finding there is plenty of information to assist you in your quest. I spent a lot of time on here before I bought my Spyder too. If you are available you should try to make it to Lamont's BBQ in September. I went to my first one in 2010 before I had my Spyder so I could just see in person all the different types of mods and talk to owners. It was a very good learning and eating experience. I bought my Spyder less than a month later. Besides an added benifit would be getting to meet Teddy (oh yea, Dave too) in person and thats worth the trip alone. Come join us!

Thanks for the suggestion! I read about the BBQ, but I hadn't thought about going. I mean, what would I sit on? :roflblack: You're right... It would be an awesome way for me to see all of the :ani29: customizations, and that would be very cool. Hi, Daisyjoe! What a cool way to start off your riding experience! Congrats! Sorry about the extra fee, though. I have never heard of dealers doing that, but I guess I understand why they would. It makes me realize that I need to find out if my closest dealer is full-service. I REALLY wish black was an option for the 2012s, so if I get that year, I think it will have to be white. We'll see!

With a name like 'Anita' you must be funny, adventurous, generous, kind, loyal, fiercely protective of your loved ones, trusting yet guarded, and just an all-around wonderful person This is coming from another Anita!

I read your blog and have to say that I admire your courage and tenacity. If I may make a suggestion - find out if there is a MSF course taking place before September - go down when the class ends and talk to the instructor(s) and ask if you can test the feel of a clutch on one of the bikes. Your excitement can come to a screeching halt if you're ready to start the class and find you are, once again, unable to squeeze the clutch. The Spyder is a great alternative for those with physical limitations who enjoy riding in the wind. Stay determined and fearless!

If all else fails, just move to California - you only need a driver's license to ride a Spyder here :2thumbs:

I think your suggestion is a great idea (BTW, thanks for reading my story)! The friend that I mentioned in the blog is planning to bring me a 2-wheeler to practice on. :yikes: He also suggested that I use one of those hand things to strengthen my hands, which I've been doing. It would be awful to be defeated by THAT again :banghead:, so I'm going to make sure I'm ready this time.
