MY SPYDER CONFESSION................

I must confess that I never intended or even thought about buying a Spyder… but now that I have one, I’m not giving it up!!

For almost 23 years now, I’ve talked with my wife about buying a bike. But as always, it ended every time with her saying, “NO, THERE TO DANGEROUS”!! This year was a little different. When the subject came up, and she was about to give me her same old reply…I had cut her off and said “Maybe they are, but I’m not buying a motorcycle, I’m buying one of those three wheel bug looking things” That kind of put her over the edge….a little bit!! She told me that if I was going to buy one of those bug things, make sure that I call it a Spyder, so they don’t think you’re as big of an IDIOT as I do right now!
Well that kind of got the ball rolling….. so to speak. Over the following week I brought home Some Spyder literature and occasionally read it, and wrote down a few items that would be nice to have on my Spyder and made sure I left it out for her to see….hoping I could get a rise out of her! She didn’t take the bait. Then one day, while helping a friend pick up some parts for a four wheeler, I met one of my wife’s relatives, at the local Can-Am Dealership. I did not know that he was working there. Needless to say I had looked at several different Spyders' that day and for the heck of it even filled out a credit application. I did not even sit on one or even ride one that day! I went ahead and submitted an application for a white Can-Am RS Spyder but never really thought much of it after I had left the dealership.
I was sent out of town the following week for work when I had received a nasty phone call from my better half. She was upset because she received the application approval in the mail. A few words were exchanged and I tried telling her that I did not buy it; but she didn’t believe me!! Her last words were “I would have picked out the silver and black one” and then she hung up.

NOW HELP ME OUT HERE GUYS!! WHEN SHE SAID THAT, IT MEANS IT’S OK TO GO AND BUY THE SILVER AND BLACK ONE?! DON’T YOU THINK?!

Needless to say with the new found approval of my wife; I called my wife’s relative and bought the 2012 Pure Magnesium and Black Metallic RS-SE5 with a Heli-Bar riser, 25” touring windshield, BRP passenger back rest, and fog lights. What was I thinking!! I still have never sat on one or even rode one!! Oh Well, at least I got the family discount which made me feel better about it in case I had to sell it because I didn’t like it. To keep things short…..Let’s just say she didn’t speak to me for awhile!! Let’s also just say that her Dad only had to say a few words to her and then things were peachy between us again!
The BIG DAY CAME April 5
[SUP]th[/SUP], 2012 I picked up my Spyder!!
(Yes this was the first time I ever sat on a Spyder and Rode one!)

As of this evening when I tucked her in bed

(Daddy’s Alien Tupperware Bug with a Frunk as my daughter calls it)
She’s sitting at 6213 miles!! Thank God the Maintenance Schedule has Changed!!

I CONFESS………..I”M NOW A SPYDER ADDICT!!!

P.S. I would not recommend repeating what I had done to get your own Spyder!! This could be potentially DANGEROUS or even FATAL!

Post

Post of pic of the new found love. Your story is pretty close to mine but I did and still do own a motorcycle. Wife mentioned Spyder and the next thing you know I had her on one for a test drive and she loved it. We have both now. Congrats to you and keep on miling.

Great story! You sure know how to read between the lines with your wife. :roflblack: She didn't say yes but she didn't say no so it's a go. Been there.

Now all you have to do is talk her into all the mods you'll want to buy!

Get all of your add on modifications ordered and then just tell her they came with the bike but have not been installed yet!

I have the same kind of deal going. Took my wife to the beach for two weeks but went home by myself on the middle weekend, sold my 09 RS and bought a 2012 RT-S which she does not know about! We go home today and it's in the garage.

This my be my last post.

The real trick is to let them talk you into a Spyder, then you are good for years.

awesome post!! My husband wanted one too and I said... "I don't think so...".... "too expensive"..... I went to look at them with him, sat on one, and it was all over... I love it!! it is so much fun and so relaxing to go ride after a crappy stress filled day at the office. It's therapy on 3 wheels! We got the RTS something something... I am already thinking of getting a Limited in a few years.. :)

I can attest to that!

We walked up to the dealership and they had the Spyders all parked around the front door... Her eyes got REAL wide,, and she said to me, "That could be like our Gold Wing was when we were first married!".
And we were off to the races! :roflblack:

Too my surprise my wife loves it.....!!!! :yes:Now she has interest and is learning how to drive It!!

Here's to hoping for a two Spyder family!! I'll send a few pics later on my lunch break. I have to get back to work now :sour:

These purchase methods cracked me up.:roflblack:
I'm lucky, as my wife of 32+ years just shrugs when I mention something like the Spyder purchase. She figures I'm gonna get it no matter her opinion. She's become accustomed to my whim purchases.
I think many wives of newer riders are more OK with their other halves riding a Spyder, due to their perceived safety being higher than that of the 2 wheelers.
So, Spyder ownership is maybe easier to come by with a reluctant better half.

Yes I know what you are talking about. I have been married 45 years and I got my wife to make the payments on ours.

Fun and engaging story. Sounds like you have a very cool FIL

:welcome: :spyder::shemademe_smilie:

Great story.....Yup, let them pick the color...:roflblack: I wanted Red, she wasn't crazy about getting one at all...but she liked white...white it is....and BTW, she loves riding on it now.:ohyea:
