There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. RT 622 Servicing

We've had our 622 trailers for a couple of years now and I am wondering about wheel bearing service. In the trailer manual it tells how to service the bearings but not how often. There is no time period or mileage shown.

I'm guessing that both trailers now have about 8-10,000 miles on them in two years.

I recall Lamont having a bearing burn out on one of his trips and I wouldn't want that to happen to one of us.

We clean and repack the bearings on our horse trailer every spring... I'm guessing that would probably be a good idea for the 622.

Anyone have suggestions?

Sure wouldn't hurt to do it. Plus it would allow you to see what they look like at this mileage point. One thing I do when I'm on a trip is - use the back of my hand on the center of the wheels to check for heat. I do this on the Spyder fronts as well. If you do it and have not used heavy braking just before doing so, it will give you a good indication if the bearings are running OK.

Do it annually...more often if you do a lot of miles each year. The Operator's Guide specifies every 7,500 miles. I found water contamination and a bad seal on mine this year. Could have easily failed on the 4,300 mile Durango trip. I do all my trailers annually, and highly recommend doing that...except for boat trailers that need it even more often. One caution...don't overpack your bearing housings. They need to have some room for expansion.

I have a 2009/10... 622 and According to Len the bearings are self contained and don't have a way to "pack" them. BUT am taking trailer and bike in for a really good going over this next week so will get a looky see at the bearings ( I hope). Trailer has about 10 to15,000 miles on it. AND since I couldn't find a spot for the kitchen sink:joke:, it was probably over loaded!!!nojoke

If you get that look, see if you can find a bearing mfg. & part number. According to the shop manual a bad bearing requires replacement of the entire hub. Not sure if they don't want shops pressing bearings or if there's another reason but that's a new one for me.

Thanks
Jer

The RT-622 wheel bearings are standard, open conical roller bearings with separate races...like most trailers. I don't remember the size. They are cleaned and packed just like any trailer bearing. Just had mine apart a few weeks ago.

Coin Toss ?

2010 Shop manual - 2010 trailer - trailer section - pg 7.

Wheel Bearing Replacemnt

The bearing is not available in spare parts. When bearing replacement is required, replace wheel hub.

:dontknow: other than what I'm reading in the manual.

Not sure why they are taking that approach. The parts fiche bears out that statement. :dontknow: They are not sealed bearings, and are absolutely repackable, and most assuredly replaceable. I just replaced the seal on one of mine, and the bearings were available. You just have to go to a bearing supplier to get the parts. I suspect some of the trailer suppliers could supply the bearings, races, and seals, too, but I haven't compared their products.

Think I'll start reading the manual once things are torn down and setting in front of me - :joke:
