Hey guy’s I know it’s been a while since I updated Spyderlovers on the progress of the Can Am Spyder Mono Cowl Storage systems I was designing. Well we have completed the first unit and will be releasing a finished and painted model in August. We will be using U.S. Paint, which is a certified paint for BRP Can Am Spyder, so matching them up should be no problem. We will offer the unit in an unpainted version if custom painting or the customers rather paint it themselves. The unit pictured is awaiting the hinge and lock unit installed, but is basically the first unit we will market. I thought providing a few pictures will get those creative juices flowing for those out there looking for a change.
The first unit we will be releasing will be one of our larger units with body accenting lines, complementing the front of the RS trunk with reverse sweeping lines on the lid and contoured body lines on the side. The depth of the lower unit or seat pan is 8 inches, with a width of 21 inches and a length 20 inches. The unit will include a bump pad and will be felt lined in the interior. Stainless steel hinges will support the lid and will be forward opening with retaining cable stop. The lock will be located under the tail section and will also be stainless steel. The unit will mount to the seat using to “Cinching” straps that go underneath the seat and will buckle and lock inside the unit. An optional brake light is being designed for those who would like a little extra rear brake lighting on their Spyder. We will be building a similar unit with a slightly larger rounded lid to hold a full helmet in the near future.
Our next two units will possibly be made using ABS. I’m currently working with an ABS injection molding manufacture that may be able to produce my smaller unit using ABS. However we have finished the unit in fiberglass, however it is a 3 mold, possibly 4 mold processes which increase our labor cost and ultimately the overall price, which I want to keep attractive and affordable.
Lastly, I like to take a poll of those GS, RS and RS-S owners out there would sport one of these unit on there bike. These numbers will help me determine an intermediate stock level I might want to keep. Our estimated turnaround time to build and ship a unit will be 14 business days. I know price is important and can assure you that it will be a lot cheaper than buying the competitive unit on the market.
To see the rest of my units and the historical progress of them, check out my Alien Arachnid Enterprises album. Here’s a link to the original thread “Would anyone like a BRP Mono Cowl with storage and size like Corbin Smuggler?”
