There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Pet peeve...engine vs. motor

Caveat - being a bit of a curmudgeon*, I have some very opinionated ideas, that may, or may not be correct.

Over the years the engine vs motor terminology has caused more than a few holes in my tongue. Short and sweet of it is that I was taught...

--- A motor uses electricity to create motion.

--- An engine is an internal combustion device that uses a fuel source (ie: gasoline or diesel) to create motion.

Hence, there may be 'motor's on a Spyder but, the 998cc Rotax V-twin, internal combustion engine is NOT one of them.

Thanks for the soap box, I will now try to do something productive today.

Believe it or not; I actually find myself struggling every once in a while trying to figure Which term I should be using... :opps:
Thanksfor putting the clarification in such a quick and easy format!

now you see how hard it is to learn your language ..in germnan an engine is a machine driven by a motor ..easy..the translater says :engineUebersetzungMotorDictionaryMachine female; Motor male; Railway locomotive female

My question is there are outboard motors, motor city and are more.

But.................The Internal conbustion engine on the spyder requires the electric motor,
aka the starter, to first start the motion, so wouldnt that make the spyder engine in reality electrically actuated engine with secondary propulsion via internal combustion?

The real question here is............ Do you ride your Spyder or drive it ????

That is my deferentiation between a two wheeler (which one rides by leaning into corners) and my Spyder (which while ridden, must be driven around/through corners)

I'd say that if that's all you have to worry about, you're having a pretty good day. :D

Hey, its a vacation day so trying not to solve the problems of the world, (at least yet, too early for beer)

As long as you don't call your Spyder "my bike" I'm okay. :doorag:;)

My scoot(er), my Spyder, and occasionally my Roadster.

Steam Thingy

A steam engine is not internal combustion and does not use electricity so we will have to call it a steam thingy from now on.

Now if you could just convince the Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Bavarian Motor Works, ...
There's also motor boats, motor cycles, motorsports, motor oil ...

My take is that while an Engine is a Motor, a Motor is not necessarily an Engine. Kind of like a Square is a Rectangle, but a Rectangle is not necessarily a Square.

You certainly do not DRIVE a spyder. Ugh. You RIDE or RYDE it ! ;-)

You folks are in rare form today.

Bob D: I like those animations you keep coming up with. Please send me a PM and let me know where I can gain access to these.

I don't think I have referred to :spyder2: as a bike--but I am very guilty of calling it a motorcycle. I think I have called it a Roadster not more than 5 times in the four years they have been around.
