There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Good info for those that travel and carry

:agree:, and with a 12 round magazine. Got a Taurus PLY22 in an ankle rig, too. Thinking about a Ruger LC9, and lusting over a KSG, but would need a sling for it:doorag:.

john

My father just recently got a LC9. Its really small and easy to ride. Fits him for his conceal/ carry. For me my hands are pretty big and just don't fit me. I have the XD. 40 compact 4". Not really concealable but I like it. But I'm in AZ and everyone carries here. I am looking at a Kimberly Ultra CDP +. Has a full size hand grip with a 3" barrel single stack. The only draw back is the $ for a Kimber. That will be my everyday carry once I get it, have to save my pennies first.

Great Thread!

I have never seen that map before. Living in MO. and originally being from IL. people thought that I was nuts when I told them that IL. is pretty much the only state that is 'anti-protect yourself' unless, as previously mentioned, you're in politics. My wife and I both have our CCW's and I've often wondered just exactly where our licenses were accepted without question. Thanks for posting that site.

Since a few of you have given your preferences for a favorite carry or are new and looking for a suggestion, here's my 2 cents. Look at it like a fire extinguisher. It's a good thing to have, but you don't ever want to have to use it. Having said that, don't go Dirty Harry and get the biggest thing you can find. It's kinda difficult to conceal 10 lbs. of potatoes in a 5 lb. sack.

Weather, clothing, vehicle and destination make a big difference for me. To keep this Spyder oriented I'll just go with that as the vehicle. In warm weather when I'm wearing shorts I like to go with the S&W Body Guard .380 due to it's light weight and very slim profile (it also has a laser built into the frame that can be turned on or off). If I'm wearing jeans I prefer the S&W Body Guard again, only it's the .38 Special version. It's light weight and hammer-less, has an ambidextrous cylinder release (great for us lefties) and a laser built into the frame. I like a pocket holster for ease of use and fast retrieval. I hope this helps. I'm a big S&W fan when it comes to handguns. I have never had one jam or malfunction to this day. If I'm forced to pull the trigger, I want it to go bang!

Thanks for the suggestions. Looks like I need to check around on a couple of them and see if I can get some kind of trade on my Thompson Center Contender Super 14 since I don't have time to hunt anymore.

:agree: Very good advice! Let the LEOs carry the fightstoppers!

OK, don't misunderstand me, it's fine to go 'Dirty Harry' on home defense. Just remember your ears in a hallway. We keep everything locked in the gun safe except for two handguns that we can reach quickly in the case of a home invasion. Our preference there is the S&W M&P 9mm. Her's is the compact version and mine is the 16 rd. model. There is no safety on either and because of it's staggered magazine and amount of rounds it holds, mine is illegal in CA. ... Oh yeah, IL. too, :banghead:

Good point on the noise....muzzle flash is another consideration. If the first round doesn't take care of the problem you're not going to be very effective if you're deaf and blind. I prefer a very short shotgun, heavy load, you only need to point in the general direction. Yeah, I may have a little problem with the authorities but that's secondary AFAIC. :dontknow:

Home Defense

I'm a big fan of a double barrel shotgun as a home defense weapon. The sound of it locking :yikes:gives pause to most, and at the ranges in the house even a load of #7 bird shot can be deadly.

One thing to remember going the Dirty Harry route is that more powerful rounds will travel through many walls maybe into a neighbors house. Another thing my cop buddy told me is a laser sight makes you an easy target. As far as the ears go you probably will never here it with so much adrenaline flowing.

Shotguns do work well for home defense since you can somewhat limit penetration by your choice of shot...
Another trick that can be used with .38s is to take a 148 grain hollow-based wadcutter and load it backwards. It's not real stable beyond 50 feet, but it looks like a flying ashtray and stops quickly after opening up to more than double the original diameter...
Worry about your ears after the bad guy is down! nojoke

Campverdefela, you are 100% correct. When you fire a gun that bullet has your name on it. I failed to state, that in my case, I back up to a state park with many thousands of acres behind me. A large bore gun will go through a lot of stuff before it stops. Also, I agree with the laser issue. I said that it was built into the frame/body, I didn't say that I would use it or not. I would rather count on my practice and muscle memory at the range using the sights of the weapon.

I know that spyderlovers is not a sounding board for firearms preference or safety, but I think that there is a place for it. After all, this is an 'off topic' thread. You can close your eyes to the bad guys and think that they don't exist, or you can open them and realize that it is a real threat. Odds are, you will never encounter such a situation. I'm sure the people in this situation didn't expect it:

Finally, a positive story about someone that probably saved several employee's and customer's lives.

This is true. I would rather live with trashed ears than to die with good ones.

The guy should get a medal for this but in reality, when the 'authorities' get done raking him over the coals for "vigilantyism' and the family of the dead guy file their wrongful death lawsuit his life will be changed forever. Hopefully self defense will kick in somewhere for him but it's dicey. :dontknow:

We're not supposed to get political out here folks....... But I do need to share a few facts.

Contrary to what some believe, Our current President is from Hawaii.... But did reside in Illinois -----;-)
He also has never had much to say either way about gun rights, but actually expanded them-- you can now carry in the National Parks for example. :-)

The map showing the various laws in different areas is a clear sign that such restrictions do not come from anyone in the White House, but from each state and cities within those states.

Carry(pun intended) on.......;-)
