LIMP MODE QUESTION

Yesterday, I stopped for gas. When I started BR1, the limp mode orange screen came on. A small light in the "2 o'clock" position came on. It was so small I could not make it out. I rode 100' where my buddies were staging for our Saturday ride, shut down the scoot and looked in my owners manual to see what it said. I could not find a symbol at that position. I may have missed it. After sitting 10 minutes we got ready to leave, I started BR1 and no limp mode...I rode 225 miles, refueling once and no limp mode!

Any ideas on what this light may have been? I did fill my tank to the brim, by mistake. Is there such a thing as overfilling and limp mode comes on?

If the problem does not persist--you just had one of those "computer moments". I have had it happen three or four times now in my four years of ownership with three different Spyder's. They have all done it at least once--the RTS, twice. I believe that both times that happened it was in boot up mode. I now let the bike take its time and don't interfere with it getting ready to go. Not sure which light you mean--someone else will help figure that out.

Thanks for your inputs. I did not happen again and I rode another 200 miles. Shutting on and off several times....maybe just a gremlin....

limp mode

I had it happen to me once on our cross country trip back in september 2000 miles from home. Of course I was concerned but with assurance from Spyderlovers on the forum that night I didn't worry and carried on.
I had just filled up with gas, set a few minutes getting ready to go and started up and the limp mode lit up when I pulled out. I pulled over to the side kinda confused, the wife is on the intercom saying "what are you doin"?

I pulled it back in to the station and decided to check the oil, added about a half quart and started up and have never seen it again. Don't know if the oil level had anything to do with it but i do know there is an oil level switch that can cause this. we had been running 75-80 mph pulling a loaded RT 622 trailer between gas stops so I am sure the oil had thinned out a little and was hot. this may or may not have been the reason, it may have just gone away with a reboot at startup.

To make a long story short, I don't really worry bout it anymore. it seems that usually a reboot clears these up most of the time. We covered another 2500 miles on the way back home without a hitch. I had the spyder serviced at the dealer and there were no codes or anything in the computer. it was fine. I am ready to head cross country again without worry.:2thumbs:

Possible cause, hurry up its. Mine was. I was in a hurry and did not let Nanny do her complete thing. Shut off, restarted, no more problems

Ask the service to retrieve the non-active fault code via BUDS. If there was one. :doorag:
