Fuel Warning Light??

Pick my new RTS up in a week, read the manual and cannot find anything about low fuel warning. Is their a light or anything else to alert to low fuel and if so, how much is supposed to be remaining. Also, if their is a light and I disconnect the regular gauge to use the more precise bar graph on the center display, does this have any low fuel warning.

I'm sure the information about the low fuel warning is in the manual. It is probably shown with the other dash display icons. There is a low fuel light. It comes on when you have a bit over 1 gallon left in the tank (in most cases). Correlation with the actual colume remaining, and with the gauge reading, seems to vary a bit from Spyder to Spyder. I'd figure you have no more than 25-30 miles left available when the light comes on, although some folks have gone farther.

I tend to agree, although I have not tried to go beyond 25 miles after the light has come on. I did it initially just to experiment but I would rather not know for sure, if you know what I mean.

If I'm not mistaken the manual states the RTS does not have the fuel bar graph. I've driven 40 miles on E and still only put 4.9 gallons in.

You are correct 2010 RTS manual on pages 30 and 31 because RTS models have the analog gauges and as a result of the analog gauges being plugged in to the spyders computer the digital gauges are not activated. If you unplug both analog gauges on your RTS then the bar gauges are visible. You still should see you low level fuel light appear even using analog gauges.The low fuel light is separate from both the bar gauges and the analog gauge package

I have my gauges disconnected on my RTS and my low fuel light will come on when down to 1 bar. do not know how far I can go tho.

Warning light

My warning light comes on with 2 gallons left and 4 used. It normally comes on at one bar, came on at 2 last Saturday, went to 1 pretty quickly and then to no bars. That got my attention, as the warning light was still on and the engine was running fine. I'd only gone 15 or 20 miles. I kept going and chickened out at 168 miles. I know from many warning lights I should be able to make 200 easily, but I stopped. 5.2 gallons is all it took, so 200 was about right on the guess. I do not fill to the top, due to the gas fume posts, but I have never had the fumes even when I filled up all the way. I leave about an inch below the lip. Not rocket science, but just another thing to remember in my ever shrinking little brain cells.

Big Red Bug is in the shop for a coolant leak. Too bad they can't make it leak. Should be doing it again right now, after cooling everything down and letting hoses shrink, etc over night.

My experience is the same as Tucks. My light comes on around 135 and I look for gas. I have run 160 and took 5.1, but I was nervous. I would like to know how much of the 6.6 gallons is actually useable. Have any of you, with an extra gallon in your saddle bag, ran until dry...??

My experience is same as yours Big Red. Fuel light comes on right around 130-135. I usually gas up at 150 is and usually take about 4.8.

I have never brought extra gas along and let mine run dry though. My record was 180 and I believe it took about 5.3 that time.

Don't recall anyone doing the run dry test. Are there any brave souls out there :roflblack:

As I get 30mpg, then I am okay up to 180...but will still look around 140-150 and not be too nervous. ha ha Thanks, Scotty.
