There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Crash Statistics...

Anyone know of any crash stats on spyders? I'm curious to see how people are doing on their spyders. I'm hoping that crash #'s would be somewhat lower on three wheels than two.

I have a friend asking about Spyder safety stats in general, he is trying to win over his spouse to the Spyder cause.

We have heard of a few crashes with Spyderlovers involved--but it has been in the minority. I do not believe they publish separate crash stats concerning :spyder2:. The stats would include all motorcycle crashes.

IMO: you are going about this in the wrong way though. All vehicles are statatistically going to have crashes. You just don't want to be involved in that particular statistic.

Driving defensive, having proper gear, obeying the rules all have a part in whether or not you will be involved in a statistic.

Most crashes involve driver error, another driver's error, or mechanical failure.

Just some things to think about.

Well I'll volunteer... :opps:
My crash was my fault and the Spyder took the shot pretty well; it behaved more like a car than a bike.
(I T-Boned a cage at an intersection...)

Sorry to hear it... glad you are around to talk about it.

Were you thrown from or fall off of the bike?

Nope... I stayed with the bike the entire time... :2thumbs: My RT stayed upright and I drove it off the road surface with a flat tire and the dash lighting up will all kinds of error messages! (As if I didn't know! :opps:)

Hey man, you can get in real trouble if you ignore those flashing error messages!

:joke:

I was broadsided at approx 10 mph in a parking lot. I was thrown from the vehicle and had leather jacket with armor inserts, full face helmet, gloves boots and jeans on. My tail bone was bruised and took about 3 weeks to return to normal. The bike tipped over on impact and then righted it self and continued on hitting a parked car. The bike was rideable after the accident, and sustained $8700 in cosmetic damage. If I was on two wheels i feel it would have been much worse. The accident occured at dusk, my brightside lighting made me noticeable but the reaction time of the other driver who was 74 and spoke only chinese possibly contributed to the outcome. Lesson learned to always keep my guard up, even when small parking lot intersection looks wide open.

I broadsided a trailer truck that was illegally blocking the entire highway at night - I angled to hit rear axle - Damage to the Spyder was over $22500. I was not thrown from the bike and I walked away with bruises and a small cut in one finger. Back to the gym in a week. I had on full boots, full helmets, gloves, heavy duty pants, long sleeve shirt, vest, and jacket over the vest - I don't think they would have been much chance to be alive on a two wheeler and certainly no chance to have not been seriously injured.. The Spyder frame bent severely but was amazing in how it absorbed the impact

The Spyder's Safe But by some of these reports I think It's the Spyder pilots you have to worry about!!:roflblack:

2011 was my first year driving a spyder and never owned a bike before. It was a great year !! I have always known that there are some people driving cages that should not be driving but driving the spyder it was confirmed . My wife bought me my motorcycle training course for my birthday and we both wanted a spyder and my wife feels safe while riding as passenger. She would not ride on a motorcycle.:shemademe_smilie:

Getting some good feedback here.... thanks.

There are not very many "MC" crashes whereas the rider can remain in the seat.

I am an MSF "Rider Coach" and many people ask me if "ryding a Spyder" is more safe than riding a motorcycle.

The first thing I say is that most (if not all) crashes are ri/yder specific and that "safer" is directly related to how the operator
enters, reacts and acts to that specific crash scenario (this is not part of the MSF course - other than discussing SEE, margin of safety and factors leading to crashes).

However, and my opinion only, ryding with 3 wheels removes much of the stability factor and presents additional opportunities to reduce injury.

I'd like to hear more from ryders who have been involved in crashes... factors invovled, how you handled it, reaction time (or lack there of), what you might do differently.

Just every time i had a crash on a bike or in a car, The one thing i should have done differently was to ride / drive slower.nojoke
Red light turns green, Wait 3 seconds before going though an intersection.

And... keep your bike in gear and at least one eye in the mirror!!!

I am not a safety nut but could not agree more with the 3 second rule. I also do this in my car. For me another real big one is when you pull behind someone who is stoped leave enough room to cut left or right if you see someone coming behind you who will not stop in time. NEVER BOX YOURSELF IN and yes this is worth yelling. This saved me on a bike before and may be why I am here now.
