• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Engine braking prohibited within the city limits.

I have an SM5 and when I downshift isn't that engine braking? What are they talking about? :dontknow:

They are refering to large commercial trucks (ie. 18 wheelers). When they use the engine break (ie. Jake Brake) it makes a lot of noise.

Most communities that want to reduce noise have a sign that says...."Jake Braking not allowed."

When a big diesel downshifts it makes quite a racket.

Yes it is, But that's not what their prohibiting.
It's the Jake brake on trucks, And not necessarily big Trucks, My Son's Ram 3500 with the Cumming Diesel has the Jake brake, and when he uses it coming down a hill you can hear it a mile away.

This is what happens when lawmakers try to get technical on us... :gaah:
"No engine braking"... :D It's a good thing that it sounds like the kind of Town that I'd rather avoid anyway... No Stopping!

It's not the lawmakers getting technical,
It's the yahoo's with loud Vehicles annoying people,
Then the people start asking for the lawmakers to get technical.:(

There are two types of engine braking. The Jacobs (Jake Brake), and the exhaust brake. Both employ engine braking but in opposite ways. What this sign is most likely referring to is the Jake Brake since it is the noisiest of the two. Jake Braking is overused, thus the prohibition on it's use inside city limits. It's primary use is mountain driving.
