Water in instrument cluster

So... coming home from a WWR mission on Sunday, I got caught in the massive storm cell that ripped through South East PA. Got home and parked the Spyder and everything seemed fine. Monday morning I see water on the inside of the plastic cover for the instrument cluster. Not condensation. Water beads were sliding down the inside of the plastic. Well things happen; it was driving rain and high wind.

Started it up and went to work. Everything was fine. I went to lunch. Everything was fine. When I got home I shut off the bike and the left (front and back) turn signal stayed lit. Gave it a gentle tap and it went out.

Started it up this morning and it was the same thing. A finger tap and it went out. Went to work and lunch and everything was okay. Started it up in the parking lot to go home and the turn signal is on again. This time no tapping helped and when I got on to just ride it home anyway I saw that the LED screen was blank. Turned it off and on a couple times and the screen would show very faint or bounce on and off.

Has anyone else had issues with water getting into the instrument cluster? If so, is this a warranty thing or is there a way to fix it myself?

I just took these and it is still wet two days later. I hope there is an easy fix for this.

Have you talked to your dealer yet? I would think that the instrument cluster should be waterproof since it will always be exposed to the elements when riding. I had water get into my speedometer on my previous bike and it was replaced without question. However, that wasn't BRP.

I called and left a message. They are closed. I work late. I will call them again tomorrow and see what they say.

I ride my Spyder to work almost every day, rain or shine. I ride in the rain and it sits outside at work in the rain. There are times it just pours. Never have moisture in the cluster.

It would be under warranty as it is a sealed unit that for sure is defective.

I ride my Spyder to work almost every day, rain or shine. I ride in the rain and it sits outside at work in the rain. There are times it just pours. Never have moisture in the cluster.

Thanks for the reply mxz600. I am riding a mission to Honor a fallen US service member this weekend and I need the Spyder to act right. If it doesn't I will ride it anyway.

You can pop that out and pull the plastic cover off if I remember right. Then maybe you could dry it out. I would have the dealer do that though if they can't get you a new one in time.

You might also want to stop applying electricity to the cluster until it is replaced. Water & electricity rarely come together with happy results. You might even disconnect the battery ground cable or at least remove the cluster from the Spyder.

I thought about the electric and water issue, but the dealer said it should be okay to ride over and drop it off. They are ordering a replacment. Should be in next week. Of course the hurricane will hit PA the same day as my WWR ride this Sunday so I might not be taking the Spyder anyway.

Just for more information....

I had water on the inside of my instrument cluster lens. The dealer replaced it. After they removed it, I was able to examine it rather closely and it is possible to pop the lens off making it possible to clean or dry the inside.. Len
