RT tensioners

I just wanted to let everyone know that the RT tensioners are now available. I have already sent out 10 to those that previously inquired months ago, and from the feedback received they are performing as well as I had hoped. The brackets are 3/16 black powdercoated steel, the bolts and hardware are stainless and/or grade 8. The tensioner is made by Fenner Drives and is 10-16 lbs. adjustable. The pulley is 3" X 1.25" with #6203 ball bearings. The pictures shown are with the 2" GS/RS pulley, for trial fitment. The RT tensioner is a little more labor intensive to install than the GS/RS tensioner and will require drilling two 3/8 holes. It is a tight fit as space is very limited. The front of the belt guard may also need to be trimmed slightly to clear the tensioner arm. Installed mine nearly 2 months ago. Just completed a 4 day, 1,800 mile trip through the Colorado mountains and am very happy with the tensioner. Well worth the investment.

I installed mine. He's what I did. I first took off my lower side panel. Then jacked the back of my Spyder and placed a 6 inch cement block with a 2x8 on top of it just under the rear wheel with the park brake on. That brought it high enough to get under to drill. I took the tensioner bracket off the tensioner and put it up to the frame location and I used a small vise grip to hold it in place. Then I used my drill to drill the two holes but first I placed a 1x2 between the top portion of the belt and the frame so I would not hit the belt. The side cover off made it easier to work. I then put the bracket back onto the tensioner and installed it to get the pulley alignment. My pully came with 2 washers between it and the arm but I had to remove the washers to center the pulley on the belt. Once it was done I reinstalled the whole assembly, tightened up the frame bolts provided and then adjust the tension. The 3\8 bolt at the tensioner should be just snug enough to be able to adjust the tension. The tension can be adjust by the 1 inch nut facing the foot peg bracket and it turns counter clockwise to apply tension. There are notches so I went from center to the first one but then after testing with a fish scale I had to do more. I am at the second notch but that might be different on each bike. I started at about 8 lbs and drove it then came back and went to between 10-12 lbs and that works for me. First install takes time but second would be easier. I did have to hold the lower belt to the side to get my drill in place but the tension allowed me to do that. Tension adjustment will vary on each Spyder as out belts can be tighter or looser. Not a fan of drilling holes in my Spyder. Why is drilling required??

There is just no place to clamp it anywhere unless you remove the CAT and use the GS/RS bracket. I tried numerous configurations to try and attach it to the motor mount bolts etc. where you would not have to drill, but the bracket would have been quite complicated and large with too many bends, and much more labor intensive to install than drilling, with limited adjustability to fine tune the belt tracking. There is not a lot of room under there and I was fortunate that the place where it bolts to was available. I did design a very heavy duty flat C-clamp with two 1/2" bolts that would have slipped over the bracket and mounting spot and clamped it together very quickly, but for liability reasons I decided to through bolt it, so I could sleep at night knowing it was securely attached.

These tensioners are FANTASTIC. I swear by mine. Probably the best thing I have purchased for the Spyder. Of course, I have an RS but you get the drift! I highly recommend them. :thumbup:

I appreciate the reply but specifically, what does it change about the bike, does it actually reduce vibration and if so is there a guarantee? I would rather see some actual test data unless there is a money back guarantee including freight and labor.

It reduces the belt vibration due to its length... I just received mine and can't wait to get it on.

Do a search for belt vibration to get more detailed answer.

I should be getting mine in the next day or two. I get a lot of belt vibration between 3500 and 4500 RPMs. Hopefully this will get rid of it.
