Checking the brake fluid levels???

Okay... I know that I ain't the sharpest pencil in the box, but how do you actually see what your brake fluid levels are?
I had noticed that my brakes were getting a bit...soft. :yikes: I popped the seat and started cleaning goo and crud off of the reservoir:shocked: and soon noticed that I simply could not see enough through the container walls to know what the fluid levels were! :gaah:
Is there a brake fluid out there that has color added to it?

By the way... I ended up making a dipstick to poke down in them. I ended up adding too much to the front one, so I "sopped it out" with a bunch of paper towels and cussing!
