To Spyder Or Not 2

Spyder worries should of done more homework myself,I bought a left over 09 it has two hundred miles on engine but I am seeing things like oil in air box etc.etc. And if I can I will not go close to a dealer, battery already died left me stranded.Now I am going thru this machine and trying to update or correct what is needed. Any after market part is out out of this world in price.I thought Harley prices were bad.I owned a Harley for ten years and still did not take that much loss in value.A Spyder will never hold value like it did. And that Harley never let me down or stranded.

Nothing holds value like the Harleys and BMWs, and maybe Goldwings. Everything else is about the same as a Spyder, according to the book numbers.

The oil in airbox probem is a peculiarity inherent in the Spyder design, especially for the GS/RS. There are several home-grown cures listed in old threads on this forum. The simplest is keeping the oil level at the minimum level. Next up is a piece of air-cleaner foam in the vent tube. There are several versions of catch cans on the more complicated end.

The problem of a bad battery in a vehicle that has sat for a while is a common one. Any time you buy a used or old-stock motorcycle, that has had the battery charged, then has been left idle, figure on replacing the battery. A car battery can often take the abuse, but not a motorcycle battery.

I ain't pickin' on ya, but did you buy the Spyder for resale value or to ride it for a few years? I have a 2008 and I have never even looked at resale value...reason is because I plan to keep it and ride it for some time...

For that matter, I've never bought any vehicle and worried about the resale vehicle...

Spyder or not 2

I had to sell the old Harley due to disability, no I expected valve to drop even with the economy today Harleys are a dime a dozen.When I bought my Roadking you could not find one now they are everywhere and cheap. It just bugs me that they put a system on a machine and force you to the dealer to reset certain things.I have worked on machinery all my life and nothing has yet to get by me that I could not fix.I have a whole garage full of tools and the spyder is just another challenge.I tried to get the dealer to replace the battery he tried to tell me they had just activated it hmmmm.I do not know where the machine sat all that time,I was told it was still in the crate in Texas all that time.I am going thru the machine now,I put a catch can on and now working on air box replacement so I can get to the plug if I have to.Already removed the canister it had fuel contamination.I really like the machine I just have to get it to fit me.:thumbup:

Last I knew Harleys weren't keeping their value like they were... To hear someone suggest that these days is like... Folklore.

Harley mods are cheap as there is a huge competitive market for them.

I think you will end up loving it as you ride it more. It is a unique machine..I know a few HArley riders and they say the Harley's don't travel the best,but you look cool getting there!...i agree with them,but I think Spyders are pretty cool themselves! Welcome!!

Harley and Spyder

I was really surprised my Harley was definitely a cruiser and was heavy,when I rode the Dragon years ago I really had to throw it around getting in and out of the turns.I would be curious how the Spyder will feel.
