loose hindle rivet solution?

Okay, call me simple, but this is working perfectly.

I had the rivets replaced on my hindle heat shield last year at my dealership because they were loosening. They are still intact....no issues.

However, the more proximal, smaller shield started loosening (of course)...I put some loctite super glue on the rivet area and now they are sealed down...I have ridden the bike in some extreme MD heat here (95 degrees), and have laser gunned the pipe itself at over 450 degrees, and the glue and rivets are sealed as ever.

Just in case, I bought some JB Weld with a 600 degree limit. This mixes a gray, so it would match the shield color pretty well. At this point, there is no need to use it...the loctite super glue is holding just fine...

After a little more time, I will put some of the super glue on the rivets on the larger shield...this will lock them down forever, I presume.

Solution? This might be a good one...and cheap...the loctite super glue is only like 6.00 on Amazon...can't beat that!

I've got the same issue. Thanks for posting. Do you just put the glue over the head of the rivet. Do you tape it down to hold it in place while the glue dries?

All you have to do is squeeze (and this product has a great device for delivery of the glue) the glue onto the rivet and around it a bit...it will bind down and in a little while, there will be no movement anymore.

I was out again today and was in traffic in 90 degree temps...bike was running at 5 bars most of the time...got home and checked while I had my gloves on...was still solid as could be!

The glue is clear too, so you can't even tell it's there...however, there will be no shield movement!!!!

I went to the hardware store and bought the biggest rivets they had, bored the old ones out, and not to my surprise (but I was hoping) The rivets were too small. I wound up boring the holes large enough to take a 1/4 Inch bolt. I actually had to JB weld a nut on the inside of the bracket because that was the only way I could figure out to get the bolt started. Anyway..... NO MORE Rattle. I feel like I have a new machine. I liked it so much I went out and washed it then polished every Square inch.

Can't wait till the road dries up. I am ready for a ride.

I went to the hardware store and bought the biggest rivets they had, bored the old ones out, and not to my surprise (but I was hoping) The rivets were too small. I wound up boring the holes large enough to take a 1/4 Inch bolt. Too much work...may not have been necessary. I had the larger shield re-riveted (if there's such a thing) and that is fine...the smaller piece was loosening and the loctite product is working great...can't tell as it's clear...

I'd go this route going forward as it likely works as well or better than anything else...

Sounds like this might be a good solution before going the FrankenHindle route like I did with mine. I amy give it a shot on my wife's Spyder, as you definitely have nothing to lose by trying it.

Exactly...you will be pleasantly surprised with the results. I cannot speak for other products, but the Loctite super glue works very well. Every time I go out now, I check the shield, and it's holding just fine...

Good stuff, Crusher - thanks for posting. I have been putting off pulling my Hindle off as well to either fix it or toss it. Now I don't have to, at least not until I have tried the glue! :thumbup:

Funny and sad.

Funny.... you would think as long has the Hindle exhaust has been out, they would have come up with a fix instead of continuing to send out a sub par product. You shouldn't have to come up with your own fix to the problem. Especially with the cost of that exhaust. Sad.
