• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I know the solenoid valve is electrically operated; but, what sensor completes the circuit to operate the valve?

After 3 riding seasons I am getting a gas smell on very hot days, like when the display shows above the mid-nineties.

The other day I pulled a panel and found the charcoal canister looked like it was wet. I cleaned it with a rag and then smelled it expecting to smell gas; there was no odor.

I have the vent tube extension and when I fill up I never top off.

So, I am wondering how I check the solenoid valve to see if it is working?

Also, where is the sensor for the temperature that is displayed in the display? My reading seems to be 10 degrees higher than the actual outdoor temp. I have a 2008 SM5.
 
You can test the solenoid by disconnecting the purge valve connector and using jumper wires from a remote battery across it. You should feel it click. If this works, disconnect the purge valve vacuum hose from the throttle body and test for valve leakage with a MityVac set on vacuum. A few stokes will tell if the valve is tight. Then, open the valve with the remote battery and the vac shoud drop to zero. Of course,If all else fails, You can always do a cannisterectomy, then you wouldn't care whether the purge valve works or not ( do a search on this site to find out how). If I had a wet cannister I think I would.

And the Ambient Temp sensor is in the front right part of the spyder== near where the fog light hole is..... In direct sunlight they can often read much higher than what the real temp is....I've left my bike in the sun for a few hours and came back to see it say "110 degrees' when it was really in the low 90's.....
