Here's what the 2011 Spyder Parts & Accessories catalog says about the Custom Vehicle Covers for RT's: ".... provides maximum vehicle protection while trailering...." and "Easy attach system secures cover in all trailering conditions." This suggests that cover was designed to use while Spyder is on trailer. Cover arrives in packaging labeled "RT/RTS TRAILERING COVER." The suggestion is the same -- safe for trailering.

But the devil is ALWAYS in the fine print. On the final page of the installation instructions included with the cover is a picture of an RT under cover and these words: DO NOT TOW VEHICLE WITH COVER ON.

Obviously it's a useless cover for $220 (less on eBay) since it can't be used on a trailer and indoor and outdoor storage covers sell for less. The guys who designed this are no doubt the same team that put the rear-tire valve right behind the belt pulley. Bunch of clever pranksters, aren't they?:joke: I'll say this, though -- the cover fits well! Probably not going to get much use in my garage, though...... I just love it when I get suckered like this -- helps keep me humble....

It is an awful nice-looking cover... Are there any grommets along the bottom edge that you could put some extra tiedown through to help secure it?

Before you get too upset you need to call BRP because in the 2011 acc catalogue this cover is listed as a trailering cover but in the enclosed instruction sheet that comes with the cover it says not for trailering. I have the same cover as you and my dealer told me that you can trailer with this cover on the RT. My covers instruction sheet also includes torque specs for tightening nuts when no nuts need to be tightened and it also says that the dealers should install the cover kit :yikes:

I am thinking that the instruction sheet includes more material than it needs too as my instruction sheet is a poor photocopy with french and english mixed up together .

No there are no extra grommets but the cover fits very tight and has an elastic around the bottom edge and zippers up the side at the back. The cover is lined and keeps :ani29: from getting scratched . Since I do not have a garage the cover I guess you could say covers my needs:roflblack::roflblack:

The instructions for my indoor/outdoor cover (for a RS) states that it must be installed by the dealer also. I thought that was so funny, and saved me a labor charge by installing it myself. Besides, how will I ryde it with the cover on?

i would be careful with ANY cover on a open trailering of the spyder.

with the wind whipping around the cover it may end up sandpaper scratching your Spyder ... :yikes:

when trailer bikes either enclosed or just leave cover off and wash bike when you arrive

I know what you mean clueless :ani29: could get a bad case of cover rash. This cover has a soft fabric liner under neath the cover that covers all the painted parts and windshield. The bottom of the cover has an elastic all around the bottom and the cover fits very tight ,my only concern would be how the cover fits on and around tghe windshield as it not a tight fit, to fix this I would use a strap to fasten down and tighten the cover on the windshield.

Thanks for that one. I am looking for a cover but only to be used when parked out (ie; when not in the garage). Would like have tried to use it for trailer cover if need arose. Will try to remember this post in the future.

I read the same thing about trailering with it on BP's website, plunked down my $227, put it on the RT and in less than 50 miles it had come apart at the seams and was worthless. What junk. I was on my way to Spyderfest and only had it in a trailer because I can't ever trust it to drive it anywhere. The limp mode comes on at random times making it useless as a transportation device so I never get more than a few miles from my house or trailer. It never goes into the limp mode while at the dealer so they cannot find out what is wrong. I DO NOT ride the brake as other suggested so am at a loss about what to do with my $20000 dumb mistake. Also I have trailered waverunners for 20 years with their covers on and never had one come apart or cost $227. The longer I am connected with the Spyder the dumber I feel.

You are right I have trailered boats for a long time and have never had a really worn cover rip apart never mind a new one. I am sorry that you had to be the test pilot for this.
