• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Old Eyes and safety

Like my RTS but wish BRP would make the info on the screen at least twice maybe 3 times the size it is now. It's to F%*&# SMALL period to easily see while your trying to drive !!!! It's actually a safety concern..... about the only thing that is easily decernable is the Speed (nice big numbers). All my (young and old) friends that have recently bought spyders have the same complaint. Also the turn signal indicator on the screen is so small and dim during the day it's worthless. Bone head design excuse my "french".:( .... As long as I'm on a rant, who was the genius that decided not to have the so called rear passenger speaker controls not control the volume of the rear external speakers.

Readers Needed?

OH yea have a pair of those eyes myself. But have found the most wonderful readers that now allow me to see all "that stuff"...

for sunglasses check out: www.andersonoptics.com

now for non sunny days I went to local ACE hardware and found shop glasses with my necessary reader magnification....work great for those days/nights....

Now when that no longer works I am thinking I'll get me one of those service dogs and train her to 1 bark means turn left...2 barks right...frantic barking HIT THE BRAKES :roflblack::roflblack:

My progressive lenses in either my regular glasses or my prescription shades, take care of the problem. I doubt that it is BRP's fault that we are worn out from high mileage. Remember, their target audience was younger. :joke:

:agree:
I can't see worth a darn without my glasses, happened around 40. :gaah:
No offense to the OP but if you can't see the gauge now you really should look into getting some new specs. nojoke

The generation of riders I see on the RT's is not the the "younger audience" it's the "boomers":doorag:. Ya know the ones with bad eyes and $30k to slap down to buy these things, the same ones concerned about holding up their 1000Lb Harley tour bike with the wife on the back:ohyea:. And I do think it's BRP's fault that some of their electronic dash screen and speaker control design is crap at best -- sorry.

I don't mean to sound unsympathetic here... but c'mon... it's your peepers that have let you down; not their design...
(I'm 20/360 in my left eyeball:shocked:)

:agree: You have described it almost perfectly. The Ultra had to go before we did, (2-up, 1100#). Some sort of software accommodation for the display would not seem to be out of the question (and only add 100 pages to the instruction manual <G>). A.

Well I guess my 3 riding buddies and I that just purchased RTS's and Limited's are all wrong about the size of the print on the screen and how difficult it is to read and focus on the small screen print quickly will going down a country road at 55 mph Guess that would pertain to the rear passenger speaker control design, and the problem with GPS voice to helmet.... plus many more "bugs" with communication system that should never have left the factory. "C'mon".

Buy the way with our glasses our eyes are fine and while stopped we can read the little print fine. Not a problem if ya have about 10 seconds to take your eyes off the road .......... WHAM ........ "what was that Martha , a skunk or a stroller" ?

I solved the problem ... placed a 1 inch wide strip of duct tape over the top 1 inch of screen ... there no more distractions trying to read small print. Same solution BRP used with the smaller bolt through a larger threaded bolt hole on the neg ground post.

agree with Scotty and all -- progressive lens and just got a pair of progressive lenses mounted in a pair of Oakley Monster Dog Sunglasses. Nice wrap around lenses -- work wonder for viewing the screen and the road.

Duct tape is cheaper and more effective, it is also recommended by Red Green, our hero.

Well I'm glad to hear that the Duct Tape is working! :D I've learned over time to not try and read all of the stuff that is there... As long as I can keep it on the pavement, can read the speedometer and hear the stereo I figure that I'm good to go!
Scotty, I never got used to progressives... but I've got some bifocals that make seeing out back with the mirrors a real interesting thing to try... :yikes:

Oh crap! What'd I just run over???

How about a HUD (heads up display) option? :2thumbs: Although this won't help when it's time for your vision test when your due for a new drivers license.

Been there with the bifocals. The progressives are a lot better for driving/riding. I'm glad they don't bother me or Nancy.

When pulling the top side panel one or both of the 2 grommets in the rear side panel are/is almost sure to pull out and end up on the ground under the bike. We were 3 for 3 with this happening on 3 different bikes the other day.:opps:

It's not a problem puttng them back (if you can find them) but you would think on a 30K machine they would have used a penny's worth of glue to secure them at the factory.:dontknow:

Duct Tape the handy mans secret weapon works good to secure the panels to each other when you don't have replacement grommets. Our bike's have black gerrilla tape racing strips now on the sides, black is good it goes with all the bike colors but looks really good on the red spyder. Helps with the aerodynamics of the design also, covering the joint with a smooth suface. ;) But with our poor eyesight most everything looks good. :sour:

It's the same on my 2011 RT but the grommets were glued in. Still didn't solve the problem. I found two on the top side panels that were pushed in. This was the first time I had them off so it had to be the dealership. Another one is lost and had to order replacements. Plan on gluing them in again but I don't know if there is a glue that will keep rubber stuck to plastic. CA may hold it for awhile but it will eventually break loose. May have better luck with RTV.

I wear bifocals and have no trouble reading but I agree that the turn signal indicator is too small on the RT as is the low fuel light. They could stand to be a little larger.

Tape a 6 inch strip of Guerilla duct tape over them front and back punch a hole where plastic peg fits through. The small amount of tape that will show just gives it "character":doorag:.

By the way, watched a dealer  take rear side panel off 2011 RTS without removing the 1-lower wind deflector. 2 - Mirror. 3 - service cover. 4 - top side panel. Not that difficult, I'll bet out of customers sight they all have learned to do it this way. He did have one grommet pull out with his method same as we did. The problem with the rear side panel is with the grometts pulling out when pulling the upper side panel free not pushing through. Much bigger lip on front of gromett than on the back. Once that guerilla tape glue hardens you'll never get it off, that grommet will be there for the duration .

small print

If you think that is bad... take a look at the online parts manual.... at least you can adjust the size of the print there:cus:
