I bought one, and just finished the installation today. I will try to answer all your points here.
Anyone using one of these hitches being sold on ebay from a company in Canada? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Can-...077480QQ_trksidZp5197Q2em7QQitemZ330518357006
Can you see any reason why this is not a good idea for a hitch on an RS?:dontknow:
I was able to stand on the hitch and it held just fine. Metal seems to be about a half inch thick, if not more. I did not measure it. The brackets are the same size as the washers used for the axle, so they seem to be strong.
Tricky Dick,
I bought one from them and it's a great hitch. fits my RS perfectly. Paid via Pay-Pal $249.00 with free shipping. Had no trouble installing it either. Note: You will need a converter for the Spyder wiring from 5 wires to standard 4 wire. Reason: the Spyder has separate turn signal lights. Go to this site for more info:

Their web site is
www.remorquetrekker.com. Look on the top right for the word "English" to change it from French. They do not show anything about the hitch, but some nice trailers. I paid $249.00 also.
Differences: Bolted together, rather than welded. No teflon/plastic sliders, but they may not be needed. Trailer plug on the hitch, rather than on the bike (RT issue, may be a plus for the RS)
All-in-all, doesn't look as strong (NOT an over-engineered BRP part), but probably will work just fine. At half the (msrp) price, worth consideration - especially if you use one of the E-bay "Best" trailers, like Yazz is pulling to Alaska. JMHO
The brackets are held on by the axle bolt, then four (two on each side) bolts hold on the hitch to those brackets.
It is not a BRP hitch as BRP does not make a trailer hitch for the RS . They are a private company located in Quebec Canada. The hitch looks like it goes on the same way as one of BRP hitches made for the RT. I would google them first to see if they have a web site with more info on them. I have seen different posts on :f_spider:lovers for aftermarket trailer hitches for RS
When I bought mine for the RS, and asked for more installation questions/photos. They sent me the pics that are used for the RT. They both look the same, so I don't know what the difference is either.
He has 100% feedback, and if you click on the # (15) behind his name, you can see where he has sold three, and all three buyers seem pleased with the quality and workmanship.
I am very happy with mine, although I have not towed anything with it. It took more than the 2 to 6 days to ship as they list, but that might have been because of customs.
I looked at these also. The one thing that puzzled me was the "removal of the rear axle" in their instructions. It may just be a typo but that would significantly increase the installation effort since the BRP hitch has a long bolt that allows you to mount to the factory hollow axle. You might want to just clarify that point with the manufacturer. I think the quality looks great.
Yes, you remove the axle bolt to install the brackets. then there is four bolts that hold the hitch to the brackets. Installing the brackets took me about 45 minutes, but I worked real slow, as I did not want to mess up the belt tension.
I believe the BRP hitch also has rubber bushings in the sides of the hitch whereas the other one looks bolted metal to metal.
Yes, metal to metal.
Isn't really that big of a deal to remove the rear axle. Jack the bike up from the center frame to remove tension on belt--- remove lower rear shock bolt so you can slide belt off-- then axle will slide out easily.
Yes, was really easy, unless you do something dumb like I did. Had to redo the tension on the belt, but that was my fault, and not because the installation intructions were incorrect.
