Oil pressure sensor

At Spyderfest my oil pressure sensor started acting up causing a check engine light to come on and the bike to go into limp mode. :sour:
Cowtown didn't have the part but were SUPER helpful with a couple of BUDS updates I needed. They told me swapping out the sensor isn't hard if they had one.

So I get home and call the local dealer who orders the part, only to tell me that it'll take 11 days to get my bike in for service! :gaah:

I assume this would be something they'd have to do because I'm sure BUDS is used in some way during the install... is this a correct assumption? Is this something I could do myself? It should be covered by my BEST, so that probably means the dealer has to do it correct?

My oil pressure sensor went out at Syderfest also. Cowtown had one sensor in stock and installed it. I don't know of any Buds issues with the install.

Should be covered under warranty so dealer has to do it. They have to clear the check engine light with buds. Just had to do it to my wife's. Was in the shop for 1 hour. My dealer has in stock for other types of stuff. Same I guess as quad or seadoos.

It's a simple install--- just have to use the right locktite when putting it in--- can't remember which one it was.

I wish I would have known you needed one at Spyderfest--- I had one in my spare parts kit and would have helped you install it.

We should have a system in place at these events so that those in need can hook up with those with spare parts. Maybe just post a PART NEEDED thread while at the event.

You wouldn't believe the stuff I take on a trip if the trip is more than 4 days.......
Honda gaskets, oil filter & change parts, Oil filter cover & Screws, Drain plugs, Engine coolant tank and lid, rear bearings & Seals, lugnuts, relays,plugs, fuses, Oil sensor,quart of oil and coolant, front sprocket & bolt, and soon a spare belt.

Probably missing a few things I carry-- also carry enough tools to perform any of the above installs. Believe it or not it doesn't take up that much room- I keep the tools and parts in my topcase and leave it on the bike all the time during the trip in case myself or someone else needs a part.

This worked out well when I had to do some electrical testing in Cuba and determined my battery was fried. Didn't have a spare battery - but Cowtown was only 2 miles away when it happened.

Found out a short in one of my sidecase lights was draining the battery and caused some other minor damage - blew 2 fuses (bike still ran) and a turn signal circuit controller that I had installed.

All is fine now.:thumbup:

Had the same thing happen to me 3tracs. Root cause was leaking anti-freeze from that worm clamp above the sensor. Dealer swapped it out under warranty but I bought three extra sensors. I'll swap my own out if it ever happens again, bank on it. That and check the worm clamp on a regular basis.

Darn!! I should have asked you about it when we spoke multiple times on the golf course... that's when it really started to act up. Thanks Firefly, I really appreciate the offer! How much are those sensors anyway? Maybe I should start a "roadside hazzard" kit too!
