3 Great Lakes in 3 Great Days, 2011 (It's Official)

Okay everyone,
I sent of an email to the Cedars hotel, that is where we stayed the first time I planned this trip. They are so nice there. I have inquired as to the rates and availability for the weekend of Aug. 12, 13 & 14.

Here is a sketchy idea of what our itinerary would hold.

Friday, the 12th ride up the Lake Huron shoreline along US 23 to Mackinaw City. There could be various meeting spots along the way as we pick people up for the ride. Last year we met at our Dealer, Nord Ride. It was an easy starting place right off of I-75 just north of Flint.

We would set up another meeting time on the south east side of the Bridge, there is a parking lot there. Get some group photos with the Spyders in it and then cross over together. We would head to the hotel in St. Ignace and have free time to do whatever. We could plan a time to all head out for dinner later that evening.

Sat. We would take the scenic route and head north to Sault Ste. Marie. From there I am looking at maybe a few other spots along Lake Superior for the sake of the ride and the scenery. We would head back to St. Ignace early evening.

Sunday we would head out south along the Lake Michigan Shore line and then the Tunnel of Trees. The trip would end in Harbor Springs. From there, that would be the official end of our weekend. Everyone could take their respective routes towards home.

As I mentioned, this is all tentative and as I firm things up I will keep you posted. I am getting so excited as I plan all these things.

Sounds like a great itinerary. If you (we?) head up to the Sault, a couple of miles before the Sault is a road taking off to the west that loops up and follows the Lake Superior shoreline. One of the nicest roads I've ever been on! We will see if we can make this ride, although we may look for a campground in St. Ignace.

We had a great time the first year, very casual and just some nice riding. I will keep this thread up to date as I get everything finalized.

that ride sounds great. while in the u.p. you ride to fayette on the lake Michigan side then back to st. ignance on us 2. Nice scenic ride also. Fayette has a nice ghost town. Keep us posted. we're into the rides!

Hey Everyone,
It is official, Aug. 12, 13 & 14 will be 3 Great Lakes in 3 Great Days!! I just got off the phone with Kathy, the owner of the Cedars Motel and would love to have us again. She has not changed her rates since we sent out in 2008. So we have the same offer. Here is some information on the motel.

Tim and I have 11 rooms to offer and right now my calendar is clear for those dates in August. Our rooms are very nice and CLEAN. We are easily accessable to many area attractions should our guests happen to venture out to enjoy all St. Ignace and the surrounding area has to offer. We are the closest motel to the Kewadin casino if anyone would be interested in trying their luck after a great day of riding. At that time our room rates are $58.00 plus taxes for a queen room with two guests. The rooms with two double beds is at $62.00 plus taxes with two guests and $10.00 dollars apiece for the third and fourth person. We have in-room coffee pots and also offer a nice variety of items in the continental breakfast from 7:30-11:00 am everyday.

Tim and I sure hope that what we have to offer is suitable for everyone. All who are interested can check us out on our web site at www.thecedarsmotel.net. We can also be reached via telephone at 906-643-9578.
Sincerely,
Tim and Kathy Nolan
The Cedars Motel

Okay, so they only have 11 rooms and 2 of them are booked already. 9 of their rooms have Queen beds, 2 rooms have 2 double beds and one room has 1 double and 1 queen. All of the rooms have coffee pots and 9 of the rooms have microwaves and little refrigerators. If she gets fully booked with all spyders there are other motels in the area and even one right next door so we could all be close. Kathy and Tim were excellent hosts when we were there before. They have a bon fire each night and this year they have a gas grill which they said we are able to use. They don't officially open for the season until May 1st but you can call now an make your reservations for our Spyder weekend. If you do not get an answer, leave a message and they will call you back. Do not worry if the phone number on the message does not match the number you called, it is a forwarded number.

As we get closer, I will post some specifics on the rides. And thank you for all the suggestions. It will be a great weekend.

Itineraries (Subject to change)

Here is a sketch of the ride itineraries. As it is so early yet, this is obviously subject to change. But this will give you a pretty good idea of our plans.

Friday, Aug. 12th. Meet a Nord Ride parking lot 7415 Enterprise Parkway, Mount Morris, MI 48458 (just off of I-75) at 9:00 am. We will be leaving by 9:30 am. Here is the link for the ride to Mackinaw City. Nord Ride to Mackinaw City We will plan on meeting on the South East side of the bridge in the parking lot for a group ride across the bridge at approx 3:30 pm. If you need a meet up along this route, let me know so we can plan a stop to pick you up. I prefer that any extra stops coincide with gas stops, so we will try to arrange our pick up points accordingly.

After we gather on the south side of the bridge we will cross as a group and head to the motel. Bridge to Cedars Motel

Everyone has time to visit, rest, clean up or whatever. We can all gather and decide on where to go for dinner around 5:30 or 6:00 on Friday night and then the rest of the evening is yours to enjoy. The Motel has a bon fire every night if we would like or head to the casino or just ride around.

Sat. morning, I would like to be ready to head out around 9:00 am. Here is the Sat. map route. St. Ignace/Sault Ste. Marie/Paradise/Tahquamenon Falls/St. Ignace

I plan on giving everyone some time to visit at the Sault and also at the Falls, probably have lunch in Paradise. That is yet to be determined. This gives us a full day of riding and some breath taking sites. My plans for dinner on this night cook out on the BBQ grill right there at the Motel and relax around the fire. Since we all have little refrigerators in our rooms, I plan to have gone to a store on Friday and already have my steaks or burger or whatever on hand. Once again, the evening is yours to enjoy in whatever way you find is right for you. This is a casual vacation and just a nice way to hang out with others.

Sunday Morning, I plan on leaving around 9:00 or 9:30 and heading home on the west side of the state. Here is the route and it will take us through the Tunnel of Trees as well. Sunday Ride Home I think it would be pretty cool to have lunch at the Legs Inn if it isn't too crowded when we arrive in Cross Village.

Then alas, our official journey will end in Harbor Springs. From there we will all go our separate ways towards our various homes, having once again created some wonderful riding memories.

Those are my plans and if anyone would like to share in them, you are welcome. Kathy is ready to take your reservations at the Motel and I think it is going to be a lot of fun.

Martin, most of the info you need is right here in this thread. I have copied it into this post for you. The name and number to the motel are listed as well. If you have any additional questions, you are welcome to send me a Private message or just ask and any of our fine members will be more than happy to assist you. Also :welcome: and enjoy your Spyder.

I am told there are 5 rooms left at the Cedars Motel. As the Cedars books up, Kathy, the owner of The Cedars suggested the motel right next door NorthernAire I do not know what their rates are or anything about them personally but I can't imagine Kathy recommending anything that would reflect bad on her. And it is right next door so we would all be together.
