I installed new tires on my wifes rts today 175/65/14 General Altimax RT fronts and 215/60/15 Michelin Hydroedge in preparation for opur Southeast Texas to Pacific coast to The Arctic Circle in a month or so ,on her first test ride she came back and said front feels much more stable and surefooted in curves , she could tell difference immediatley , before removing the back tire I checked the belt tension with the new Krikit 2 I had just recieved hours before, been running belt by feel and was happy to find tension right on 150 where I was shooting for, thanks all for tip Krikit2 is great aid. Will keep informed on her tire wear she has 25000mi. now with 70,000mi. frts. and a 90,000mi. rear rating maybe I wont have to keep changing her tires. By the way frts. were spun balanced at local store, back I static ballanced at home and is smooth to 95mph., so she tells me.

I'll be changing my rear tire on my RT-S at 15,000 miles. I presently have 14,300. I felt like it would be best to change before heading to Cuber (said like Teddy Kennedy) Mizzou. Front tires still look good.

What pressure are you riding in the rear tire? That's darn good miles.

Mouthpiece, is that 14,300 miles on the original rear tire? If so, I'd sure like to know your secret. Mine was worn completely out at 9,000. I have just a little over 13,000 now, so 4,000 on the second OEM rear tire and I doubt it will get 9,000 on it.

Guys all I can tell ya is that I'm not an aggressive rider, but not in the least timid as well. I've taken my spyder and ridden in the Smokey Mountains, I ride around town and I've been on several adventures throughout the state of Flarda. I do like to show off when I'm at a stop light and am making a turn. I also REALLY like to show off when I approach a stop light with the turn arrow for me to proceed and there is no one in front of me. You should see the looks on some of the "two wheelers" when I get it on going around those corners.

I'd say that 80% of my riding is alone with the rest my wife or grandkids. I keep my tire pressure at 28 to 29 lbs. I told my tech at my dealership about some of the lower mileages that some were getting. I even asked if I should get a different brand. His answer was that the tire that came with my spyder "OEM" had a very good compound in it and recommended it. Consequently, I'll be ordering the same tire.

I might add that Lamont took a picture of my tire at Bike Week in Daytona last week. He was a bit surprised to see as much tread that was on it as ya'll.

Hope this helps.

Great update Chris. I have 10400 and it looks like my rear tire is about at the wear bars, but there is a lot of tread left, so I'm going to wait awhile. I think I asked you this once before, but don't remember what you said -- do you use Ride-On? I put it in after reading how much Lamont liked it. But with the mileage you've gotten you probably don't need it (at least not to extend your mileage, but maybe to avoid flats).

Oh, the reworked arm rests are fantastic. Very tight.

:dontknow:
Are you sure you're looking at wear bars, The bars are in line with the little triangles on the side wall.
Not the bars with horizontal lines .

I currently have 16,600 miles and need to replace my rear tire as the wear bars are smooth. The outside tread
looks good but the center is starting to get smooth. I remember reading in a thread where someone
talked about stuff you put in the tire to keep it from getting flats. There were two mentioned but one
was better than the other? :dontknow:

Gonna stay with the stock tire for now, I too run my rear at 28-29 lbs and ride solo 92% of the time.

I pull a trailer 12 % of the time if that matters:dontknow:

Dang it - I'm being too easy on my rear tire. I almost never break the rear tire loose and mine was worn out at 9,000 miles. You "show off at stop lights" and put 15,000 miles on yours. I'm just riding too conservatively. I also run 28 PSI in mine.

Seriously, the difference may well be that I ride 2-up 90% of the time. The extra weight over the rear tire probably makes a lot of difference.
