Should I be concerned??

I had knee surgery three weeks ago, and that, coupled with really crummy weather has kept the RT, stashed in her warm garage.

The weather hit 58 yesterday, so I hoisted my gimpy leg over the seat and took her for a short warm-up - temp gauge just hit mid range, when I rolled back into the garage and parked - this morning, there was the dried remains of about a cup of antifreeze. At no time, up to this point, has there been any "green leaks".

You are doing amazingly well, if you had a knee replacement. Pretty good even for arthroscopy. After my new hinge, it was 6 weeks until I could manage to ride. Nancy took 8 weeks after they installed her new titanium parts.

The coolant leak could be that the lone worm clamp is loose. It is worth checking that...and making sure the cap is turned all the way to the second detent. There are other possibilities, though, including loose or failed Oetiker clamps, a bad coolant tank, bad hose, radiator, water pump, or connection block. Considering that you are probably not ready to get down on your hands and knees to search for the leak, I'd let the dealer take a look at it. There is not much coolant in a Spyder, so you can't afford to lose much.

Sounds like you are doing very well after your surgery. I wish you the best with continued, fast, healing. Good luck sorting out the coolant leak as well.

My knee was a total - with a story that sounds like the DPS story - and I had full range of motion the day the staples came out.

Thanks for the insight - I'll pull the Tupperware in a couple of week & check the WS, & hope for the best

Coolant Leaks

Indeed, any of the above could be the cause. For me, I began to notice when my Spyder, under its deluxe cover, seemed to begin leaking when the temperature dipped below 45 degrees or so. One would o' thunk it was loose worm screws or clamps, or whatever; but turns out my hoses were fine ... reservior to radiator to water pump. The problem was a leaking seal in the vicinity where the impeller shaft comes in from the engine. They're replacing the shaft, the seal and of course the seal for the main housing. Glad she's under warranty. I suppose if I had any advice, it would be to watch the changing conditions (temps) around your Spyder, and absolutely make sure that reservior is full. I had my Spyder taken in to the shop on a roll-up until I had the problem in the hands of my dealer mechanics.

You are doing incredibly well, then!!! :thumbup: It took 3-4 weeks before I could swing my leg over my BMW or Nancy's RS, with just a partial (but a huge incision that was not in the typical place). I could have probably ridden if the RT had existed then, but it took a bit longer to stay tucked in that far for long enough to ride the sportier models. Nancy might have been able to ride in six weeks, with her short legs, but she was a bit shy about it. No way she could have accomplished it in three weeks! Amazing about the full motion so soon. You must not swell easily, and your muscles/tendons must have been pretty loose to start with.

May your recovery continue at the same fast pace...aided by a nioce ride now and then.

Well I chatted with a friend in Boise, who has a RT about the same age as mine - lo & behold, he has exactly thhe same problem. His has probably seen colder temps, but otherwise, similar conditions & time.

Any one else out there with this issue? Haven't ripped off the Tupperware yet, but will probably get there later this week.....
