• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

trunk removal on GS

Takes me about 30mins. Panels are removed from the front, the panel covering the coolant tank area, disconnect the horn and 12V if you have it installed, the trunk disconnect cable, etc... 4 bolts/Screws along the top of the trunk and one on either side on the bottom, if I recall correctly.

I used the service manual to be sure of things and read it a couple times over before I attempted it.
hope that helps and good luck.

PS While you're in there it's a great idea to grease the zerk fittings on the front suspension arms. There are 8 in total and with the trunk off you'll have easy access! :)

Does the trunk release cable have to be removed when removing the trunk? The service manual doesn't mention the cable. The manual mentions there are 4 screws up top and two underneath to be removed; plus the sensor and unplugging the horn.

Yup -- just pry the 'fork' apart and slide the cable out of the latch.... easy.

The sensor SHOULD be mounted on the right side of the trunk, some dealers missed them when prepping the Spyders. A 10mm gear wrench for the top, and a 10mm ratchet for the bottom, a jack would come in handy.

Yup, horn on the port side, temp sensor on starboard side. and the trunk latch cable should come off as well. after all bolts are removed, a smooth up and out motion will take trunk assembly away from the frame work and there you have it! Took me about 25 minutes and I was fortunate enough not to have to use a jack.

I can't help but think it looks like some kind of bug like that!! :roflblack:

I just watched Transformers tonight and it does resemble some of those creations. :roflblack: If I take the trunk off again I will have to ride it down the road and get some photos, it'll look pretty scary :D.

And you thought you got looks on your Spyder before... :D

BTW, Firefly had a great thought about hitting the zerc fittings with grease. Great oppurtunity to do it while you have it open.

Actually that was Groundeffect that mentioned that --- I just agreed with him....

On a RS when removing trunk do you have to remove the "skid plate" mounted under the trunk? Or can it stay attached?
