• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

in case people have forgot about the numberous posts about this issue, it will screw you for at least 2 weeks.

Hey guys... is there an early warning sign of this happening, or does it just go snap one day?

Is there something we (ryders) can do to help prevent this, proactively?

Thanks!
Dean

What goes bad with the sprocket? Teeth get worn down?

Sprocket Off Again

Front Sprocket came off dealer fixed by using red lock tight on the bolt about 2500km later sprocket came off again. Wait and see what happens this time. 27000 km onthe bike

Would also like to find out how many that had to have this done was done under warranty and if the belt and rear sprocket was replaced also.

Both times my sprocket was replaced under warranty and they did not change the belt or rear sprocket. Even with the new engine, I'm sure I got the original belt and rear sprocket on my Spyder.

The red locktite you are talking about is supposed to be the kind that after it is put on, it will lock the bolt and never come off. You will have to break the bolt to get the sprocket off. The blue is the kind that will come off with hand tools. If the dealer put the red on and it still came loose there is something wrong somewhere.

I "smoked" the red locktite in under 10K miles...:opps::popcorn:

Red Loctite will release with the application of heat. You won't break the bolt that way.

Nothing will keep the sprocket bolt from loosening or breaking if the physical fit between the shaft splines and the sprocket develops excess clearance. The resulting movement is murder on the fastener...far worse than normal vibration. The end result is a snowball effect that can break or loosen the bolt, and destroy both the sprocket and the shaft. It is my opinion that proper shaft size, proper machining, and proper heat treatment would eliminate these failures. All the fastener torque in the world is no substitute for robust design and construction.
