There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Any New Info On Steering Issue ?

fleet

New member
After we got back from a run in the N.Georgia mountains, my wife commented to me about her 2008 Spyder suddenly wanting to cut sharply to the left - we were on a straight 4 lane highway. She never reads any of the forum stuff and had absolutely no idea that this had been brought up by other riders in the past. She said she didn't have any major problem correcting the sudden re-direction but said that it did freak her out for a moment.

I mentioned the incident to our dealer when I was trying to get a spare key made ( that's another story .... ) yesterday. The Service Manager said that they had had one other case just like hers and that BRP said replace the DPS module or something like that. The main service technician tried to call BRP and was still on hold 45 minutes later when I finally left after being there 5 1/2 hours due to the spare key fiasco.

Any updates ? Thanks ......

Update.....

Yes Spyders are stilling doing it, and no BRP does not really have a reliable 100% of the time fix that can be done by all their dealers yet. :gaah:

As it relates to the RT-S? (which I believe this "sub subject matter" is directed to) I wasn't aware that there were any major steering issues. Am I wrong on this?

steering problem

My bike is new, and the steering has a problem, it feels like it wants to "duck" out from under you on sharp turns, took it to the dealer, and they rode it, and agreed, they had to reset the steering, said it was a 4, on the computer and should have read 0. It is much better now, but, he said next time I come in, {which will be soon} they will run it again to see if it is holding true. One problem after another with this bike, ugh? I love the bike but, am wondering if I made a mistake.

I guess the first question I have to ask is what model spyder do you have? This thread originally started out with "any new info on the steering issue". In the body of the thread the author states he has a 2008 RS. This "subsection" of this forum deals with the RT-S. That is why I said what I did earlier in response to the subject matter of "steering issues".

I wasn't aware that there were any steering issues with the RT-S that were exhibited with the RS. Admittedly, many have talked about the roll or dip when going around corners, but these, at least to me, appeared to be minor adjustments, i.e., tire pressure, riding style and the setting of shocks.

If I'm wrong on this, then I stand corrected and apologize. I guess the bottom line of what I'm saying is that perhaps this topic should have been in the RS subsection?

Just a thought.

Update from the " originator " ... We currently have 3 Spyders. Two identical 2008 SE5's and one new 2010 RT SE5 with the audio / entertainment option. I ride the RT and my wife rides my previous 2008. The other is used by other family members or friends. I just posted our situation under the RT forum since I'm used to going there in regards to my RT Spyder. Maybe I should have posted it somewhere else but I didn't .... Do I have to turn in my Spyder Rider pin ? :lecturef_smilie: Or maybe it gets ceremoniously broken in half by a jury of my peers and I have to wear only half of the pin as a badge of dishonor the remainder of my Spyder riding days ? Kinda reminds some of the older crowd of a 60's western ... Branded.

Anyway , I spoke with my dealer again. he said that he was able to finally get to speak to someone with a pulse at BRP. He relayed the problem to them.... they told him to re-flash, reset or whatever gets flashed or reset and if it continues to have the problem that they would replace the DPS module on their nickel even though it's slightly out of warranty. Sure hope it doesn't cause any serious problems with my wife riding it .... I've kinda gotten attached to her over the past 25 years. 8o) .... Maybe I'll just fib a little bit and go ahead and say that the problem happened again so they'll replace the suspect part.

I sure am glad that I got a 6 year warranty on the new RT. Maybe I won't need it and they'll refund my money for the last 3 years. I thought that was a pretty decent deal.

Just a suggestion: you may want to go to the original posting and edit the title if possible to say RS Spyder steering issue :D

or am i confused and this issue is with your RT?:hun:

sorry seems clear as mud ;)

I want to apologize to the originator of this thread in sounding condescending and nit picking about the title. It was very disrespectful of me.

I jumped to conclusions when I saw just the title of the thread and did not examine it thoroughly to see the contents. It's kinda like the slanted headlines that you see in the media only to "read on" and find out the TOTAL content of the article.

I guess my quickness stems from when I first signed a contract for an RT-S to be delivered in the future. This was in November, 2009. I recall coming to this website and hearing all the horror stories of people with their spyders. Needless to say between November and January when I took delivery of my spyder I had second thoughts about whether I had made the right decision or not.

As it turned out most, if not all, the threads were being addressed to the RS. Since I was new to spyders and this forum, I really wasn't able to discern the difference and had a very empty feeling about what I had done reference purchasing my spyder.

Consequently, when I saw the title to this thread, I became "unnecessarily alarmed". Again, I apologize to the "originator". I'll try to be more diligent and read the entire thread before responding. I hope that you will accept my apology.

2008 Spyder Steering Problem - NOT RT ....

No problem ....aside from being in the wrong sub-set , sub-species , sub-forum, I have had only 1 problem with my new RT since I got it. Day One left the dealership with my new toy - Got 50 miles away on the other side of Lake Lanier and BINGO there's the dreaded Check Engine / Check Transmission / Limp Home .... Needless to say I was quite upset. Limped back to the dealer ... they cleared the codes - Redid whatever they redo and 1200 miles later I've had O problems.

Anyway back to my wife's 2008 - looks like the problem still randomly exists on some units and according to BRP there's no definitive fix. :dontknow:

At least if and when it happens again, the surprise and shock factor for my wife won't be as great having experienced it before.

This is for you musicarcade ....:clap::clap::clap::clap:

All but one man died.
There at Bitter Creek.
And they say he ran away.

Branded, scorned as the one who ran.
What do you do when you're branded, and you know you're a man.

Wherever you go, for the rest of your life
You must prove, you're a man.

Thanks- I actually was interested in the lyrics. In 3rd grade we used to sing:

Stranded
Stranded on a toilet Bowl
What do you do when your stranded
and you don't have a roll?

to prove your a man
you must wipe it with your hand
and prove, your a man.

:shocked::roflblack::ohyea:

Sorry to digress to 3rd grade potty humor, but I got nostalgic.
now back to steering issues
