I will be getting one for my gs
He is a site sponsor .... click the link to his site and on the bottom you'll see 2 package deals. That's the "everything" I am talking about.![]()
What is "everything"?:dontknow:
but only one item for the RT correct?
M2WILD has a GS, that's why he ordered everything. I hope to come out with more RT parts in the future but this is all I have right now, sorry folks.
Thanks,
Harvey
:nopic:So in order to keep the same distance from back to front, the guard had to be angled which then required to attach area to be ground flush with the swing-arm. This facilitated the re-attachment of the BRP cover.
:nopic:
Sure NOW you ask after it is all put back together! :banghead: LOL
Let me see what I can do. It is a difficult area to get a good angle to take one, but to benefit all and to show what I am talking about, I will give it a try!
Remember:
Keep the Guard Parallel to the Drive Belt. Do not try to keep the adhesive area flush with the swing-arm - you are trying to keep FOD out and you can only do that by maintaing an equal distance from the belt.
I LIKE THE SIMPLICITY OF THIS PRODUCT AND WHAT IT DOES!
A MUST BUY ITEM FOR PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE - IMHO.
... Keeping the same distance from back to front will ensure maximum protection against foreign object damage (FOD).
Look above.I hate to ask but it's been a long day, what is FOD? :hun::dontknow:
It's been more than a week since I ordered it. Hope to get mine soon too. Thanks for the clarification Harvey, I'm hoping that mine comes in today so that I can get it installed on Sunday.
Keep up the good work with theses mods. :2thumbs:
There is no reason to keep the "Missing Belt Guard" parallel with the drive belt, it is not designed this way by mistake.
The angle is there on purpose and great care was taken to make it an easy install by making the adheasive have full contact with the swing arm for durability.
All stones and debrea come from the tire, not the road! The angle that it moves away from the belt towards the front creates air flow to remove dust to prolong wear.
Why would anyone make a part that has to be modified when installed? Trust me, if it needed to be parallel it would have been made that way.
It's not even visable after it's installed so eye appeal is not going to be a factor.
Thanks,
Harvey
FOD is an aviation term that stands for "Foreign Object Damage".
And I would recommend that anyone installing this belt guard do a dry-fit placing a piece of cardboard between the guard and the belt to ensure equal distance is maintained. NO ANGLE - PARALLEL TO BELT
As far as dust being an issue, I would be more concerned with a harder material causing damage, like a small stone or construction nail, than road dust.
As to WHY would someone make something that needed to be modified?
Are WE ALL not modifying these BRAND NEW motorcycles because someone didn't make it the way it should have been as far as each of us is concerned? I would personally want to MAXIMIZE the guards capability to keep things out versus worrying about air-flow for dust removal. It is my personal preference based on decades of maintaing, inspecting and operating multi-million dollar military and civilian aircraft (yes I know the Spyder does not have wings - well not yet! Still waiting for THAT mod!).
That being said, I think Harvey has a great product whose idea seems to prolong drive-belt wear by keeping the potential of FOD away from the belt and associated gears.
I will work on the pics this weekend if anyone is still interested so you can see what I am talking about. Let me know.
Ordered... moving to a place with even more gravel roads than where I am now so this is just in time.. Thanks!
