Late this afternoon, I was in my front yard pulling weeds and i heard a whap... Bang!
I and nearly everyone in the neighborhood came out and a fairly large crowd gathered. Evidently, this guy 50ish+ completely drunk, smelled of liquor struck a steel signal light pole.
He was coming down a nearby street that branches onto the main drag that I live on. He didn't make the turn and jumped curb, popped at least one of the tires and then struck the pole. Good thing too... the family in the house right in his path have two cars in the driveway and he would have certainly plowed through it all and land in their kitchen. After striking the pole, the car abruptly stopped and landed 90deg from it original direction. Two other tires popped.
The guy was totally out of it and did seem harmed. Police and EMT did show. He was taken in the ambulance with a neck brace on. He reeked of alcohol and empty bottles fell out of the back of his suv as they pulled him out. Everyone was saying how lucky he is and that he didnt kill anyone.
It was amazing how forceful the crash was. The pole still looks solid. How luck the home owner is! This could have been much more horrible.
I hope he looses his license when his legal issues are over. Its sightings like this that make me wish would have prohibition and ban all liquor.
