For the past 6 weeks I have been a "foster parent" to a 2008 Spyder RS. I took it to the doctor and gave it plenty of exercise. I could have adopted it at a pretty good price but I realized early on that I really wanted an RT. So the search began for a used RT. I bought one that was listed here on SpyderLovers by a young man whose wife got pregnant shortly after he purchased it.
The RT was in Jefferson City, MO and I'm in Grand Rapids, MI. At first I was going to drive down there with a trailer and haul it back. But the thought of loading it had me more worried than the idea of riding 690 miles by myself. So I bought a plane ticket and flew to Columbia, MO yesterday. Rzrfrk, the seller, picked me up at the airport and a friend of mine who lives in the St. Louis area rode over and met us at the airport. We picked up the bike and went to his bank. After the paperwork was done my friend and I hit the Lewis and Clark Trail headed for Edwardsville, IL. It was a nice ride through MO Wine Country. It did rain really, really hard and it was about 90 degrees but it was fun.
I love the RT, it is as comfortable as I hoped it would be. The windshield is great, the storage capacity is every woman's dream! It does handle very differently from the RS but I got used to it on the twisty Lewis & Clark Trail. Today I tried out the cruise control which is great. I'm not crazy about the stereo, or maybe I just haven't figured it out yet.
The forecast didn't look too promising today but I got lucky and only hit about 10 miles of rain. Again, it was really, really hot. Chicago/Indiana traffic was awful, 5 miles of creeping along at 10 mph breathing in exhaust and did I mention that it was really, really hot? Got home safe and sound, just a little tired.
