• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Headlight running... low or high beam all the time? Which do you use?

On mine I tend not to use the high beams (I got the HID lights). The brights, at least on mine, and REEEALLY bight, and if I'm driving on a freeway at night, i put the foggers on instead, cause I don't wanna be blinding everyone on the other side of the road, and the foggers add plenty of light not only to see, but to be seen.

But, on a country road at night, especially here in WI with so many deer, yeah, brights all the way.

We always change to HID's.. But we have not yet found a kit for the RT that does not remind me of "Fleabay" stuff. For example.. Most "Fleabay" kits are not digital and or have a Halogen High beam instead of it also being HID. Not to mention the "Anti Glare" caps are never on them.

With the HID's we run low beam or fog at night and Day.. With the stock RT lights we run the fog and High beams for now during the day and the normal legal way at night... :2thumbs:

When you ride, do you use just the regular low beam headlights? High beam, or HID lights?

I usually use only the low beams. In cloudy / overcast conditions and at Dusk I put on the fog lights. I don't use highbeams much at all. I find the fog lamps and lowbeams together give me plenty of light. The high beams on dark country roads. I don't have any HID's on my ryde.

Yeah, I plan to switch to HIDs but I will admit that the stock lights are pretty bright, in addition to the fog lights...the whiter light of the HID is more desirable, but for stock, I think BRP did pretty well...

For me its HID headlights and fogs on the RTS during daylight. Low beams of course, because the high beams are way too bright. At night, its game on when there's no traffic.:clap:

I use high beams at all times during the day, I have had people I ride with tell me my lows are too dim for the day time. I have stock lights. At night it depends on the traffic and conditions.

Always high beam in the daylight. Low beam only when meeting cars and etc at night. However my Spyder is cross eyed so that may not be best for everyone.

As we both bjt and I both have HID lights from ESI we only need low bean during the day and that is plenty. At night of course, the high beam if fantastic. You can see so much farther ahead than stock. I also noticed a big difference when we were riding with other spyders. I can usually see the spyders with HID's that are behind me very easily but stock lights kind of fade into the scenery.

Like dltang says, we have HID's from ESI. They are great and any RT owners should contact Evan / Magicman to see about getting them for the RT. They are definitely not a cheap eBay distributor / product. Top quality all the way. With the HID's, I ride most of the time (day and night) with the low beams. Only when I get a little farther out in the country, where there are no street lights, do I feel the need to switch on the high beams.

I just run my stock headlights on low beam and have my fogs on during daylight conditions. My wife does not have the fog lights on hers, so she keeps her stock headlights on high beam during the day.

Doesn't the RT use the same 'Shutter eye' to switch from low to high beam? If so... then it should be easy to find a quality kit.

ESI sells good units and is a site sponsor.

I've also had great luck with these slim units:

RT has the same shutter arrangement (in North America) but uses a different, 65 W bulb. It has different electronics, too. Last I knew Evan was testing units to try to find one that was compatible. Not sure of the status of that project. An HID kit for the RT would be very welcome!

In the past I have always ran with the brights on during the day but not anymore. One day I was leaving for lunch and met a guy from work coming back from lunch. He said my lights were very bright and blinding him. Another person from work was ahead of me as we went a few miles down the road. He told me the next day my lights were annoying. They were very bright in his mirrors and they looked like they were flashing (quite distracting) as I was running over cracks on the paved road. Now I just use dims during the day. With my Spyder being red and using ESI dayrunners I feel I am quite visible without annoying other drivers or blinding oncoming traffic.

I does not matter to me what a person turns on. Me, I want to be seen. I live in Las Vegas and the flognards that live and drive in this area have no common sense. They go where they please and if I could I would run 20 lights and fire sticks to get their attention. It pays to have a deep loud voice so when they do pull out in front of or turn in front of you, you can let them know their bovine heritage. :D

Agree!

Sounds like a Strebel horn might be just what the doctor ordered for your situation.

I have had people in front of me pull over to let me pass because my lights were so annoying... and I didn't even have them in 'brights' mode! I've got HID's for both the headlights and fogs. I recently angled the fogs down a bit and that seems to help with the pull-overs.

I've had close to a dozen people pull over to let me pass--- crazy.

I've heard from people in front of me that the Spyder lights are indeed annoying.... had one guy think I was flashing my lights at him... when it was just from the bumps in the road.

I suppose that your lights -- bright and bouncing -- may be the cause of some pullovers, but . . . I have had two different people pull over and let me pass -- only to pull along side me and shout out to me "What is that? It is really cool!" -- or words to that effect.

So, the WOW effect is still in play!
