My Spyder had an issue beginning June 1, where it I could turn the power on, but the Spyder wouldn't start. It was trailered to my nearest service , 85 miles away. I was told the battery was good. starter was good, they just found some corrosion at some connections. They also noticed an exhaust leak and ordered new gaskets. So I've been waiting 2 weeks for the gaskets to arrive an be installed. Called Tuesday and they said Spyder was ready, so I found a friend to drive my Subaru back and I would ryde the Spyder home. Got 60 miles from the dealer and ran into heavy weather. I pulled over to change into my rain gear. After putting my gear on I went to start the Spyder and nothing. turn the key, watch it do its diognostics thing, press the ignition and all I get is a click and a reset. :gaah:
Now my Spyder is sitting at a boat landing 60 miles from the dealer and 15 miles from my home. I call the dealer today and the tech says they'll call BRP to authorize picking it up. WTF!!!???

I am nearly trembling as I write this as I am SO pissed. (I'm writing this now as I wait to hear back from the dealer to hear if they have a plan/way to pick it up. before I have to call my insurance to see about getting it trailered)

Now my plans to ryde to Chicago are shot.
I have had this spyder since July last year. This year, I have been able to ryde it for 2 MONTHS - April, and May. The rest of the year it has been in the shop:gaah:

Too bad I can't just make payments for it and insurance only when I have it on not the shop!

I am FED UP. When I purchased this it was to be my main mode of transportation. I planned to ryde it to work and travel the countryside with it. I planned to go to Chicago and the Gatlinburg in the Fall, and then next year was planning to ryde it to AZ and back, taking a 3 week trip.

What a joke. My rule now is take it no further than you want to drive to pick it back up.

That it a drag and I can understand how you must be feeling. I hope they can figure it out soon and you'll be able to make it.

Hang in,I am!!

Mine is in for the same thing,I'll let you know what they find, should be today.

I had to cancel too, my spyder is still in the shop after more than 3 weeks, and calls to BRP to get things moving!

If things continue, I may even need to change my entire vacation plans.

I know how you feel.

:gaah: Know how you feel. Had mine in the shop because it would not start they ended up replacing the whole unit on the right side 4 way flasher ,starter switch light switch for trunk because the wires where fused and corroded at the connecter.Quick turn around back on the road in less than a week.

Hope you get it back in time for Chicago.

:gaah::mad: I feel your pain as well. Funny thing these Spyders... They create an emotional bound with us, similar to a first girl/boy friend...

Then that emotion comes out when things go wrong. At least that is how my wife and I feel about it. We just want to put butt to leather and move on to many happy years of trouble free ryding :2thumbs::doorag:

:opps:
yeah. Thanks Lamonster for cooling me off!
I needed to vent as I am exasperated with the issues. My :spyder: was running the BEST its EVER run as I was ryding home from the dealers. I
was loving the ryde, the smooth sound of the engine and the country smells after a rainstorm. All was right in the world, until i decided to pull over as I saw rain coming my way.

I really do enjoy ryding as I near 10k on it even tho I've only had it 8 weeks this year.

I picked it up as soon as it was ready because I wanted to make sure it was ready and *I* was ready for a long trip to Chicago. I wanted a few days of Ryding so I wouldn't be feeling like a newbie on the freeway on in downtown chi-town!

Oh well. Let's see what it is this time.....:dontknow:

I know exactly what you are saying...My :spyder2: has been in the shop for a month ... it was running on 1 instead of 2 ... the repair bill :yikes: I can only imagine !!! So I've cancelled my trip to Chi-town and I wish everyone good luck ...

That is very frustrating.

Sorry to hear your woes Musicarcade. I'm just glad you were not already on your trip. I've had a similiar experience with Ted's in Alton, Illinois. Of course, they said I could bring it back for them to fix. ( I thought that is what I brought it there for to begin with. Not to get it home and have it still broke.) Unfortunately, it was 45 miles away and I didn't have a ride back. I'll never go there again. EVER.
I will do one thing differently in the future though. Where ever my Spyder is being repaired at, when they say it is ready, i will go there and keep my driver handy until i test it to make sure it is fixed. I definitely have confidence in St. Louis Power Sports in Fenton, MO. but I will still test drive it before heading for home. :)

Does anyone get a loner Spyder? My dealer gives a bike up anything over a week or two.
No loner at Saint Louis Power Sports. They say BRP won't give them one. Of course, I haven't ridden my spyder in like 3 months; been broke down waiting on manufactured back-ordered parts etc.

My Dealer has about 5 demos. They have about 20 used bikes that they'll just throw a dealer plate on it.

as they say . . . . . .

. . . . "That which does not kill you, can really make you PO'd." :cus:

Tom, your reaction is appropriate. I hope you can hang in there until this gets resolved - the upside is soooo great, as you know.

If I remember correctly, the 'repair' was done under your pre-paid Dealership Service Contract - in your shoes, I would be at the point of "This is your last chance. Fix it or refund what I paid."

While Spyder repairs can be complex, there is no excuse for their continued inability to get you on back on the road after all this time. Period.

You deserve better.

Tom

Thanks Tom,
Actually this work was done at ANOTHER dealership- Velocity Powersports in Summerville SC, which is 20 miles further than the dealership in Savannah (which, from the info I have was told by BRP that they had to give up selling and doing warranty work on Spyders or they would lose ALL BRP products- THAT's the dealership I have a service contract with:thumbup:)*
* thumbs up guy in this instance denotes heavy sarcasm....
They came and got the spyder today. see my next message...

How my day has gone...

Have you ever seen a Spyder being trailered by a truck, being trailered by a truck?
---:hun:

You have now!:yikes:
I spent my day waiting to get my Spyder trailered. 'bout a 102 degree heat index- Truck broke down 8.5 miles from my Spyder, 52 miles from shop. Then had to wait for a truck to pick up the truck that came to pick up my Spyder.

:banghead:

I don't normally drink..............but today........I might just
not :crackpipe:

I wish the same about the insurance and payments! In a somewhat similar boat but at least mine is at the shop. Sorry for all your frustrations! I too had the idea of riding it across the country, doing route 66 and such....but I don't know that it is dependable enough to do that. I'm also to the point where I am getting rather frustrated, but that isn't just due to the bike it is also the dealership I have to deal with. All I wanna do is ride!

Wow what bad luck! It makes a funny/good picture though! It's been a long week and it isn't over yet! I don't drink either....but sometimes it seems tempting.

I am on my third dealership.
first one -20 miles away- shut their doors
second one - 65 miles away- lost their Spyder franchise
third one - 85 miles away - has been the best one yet. They found issues that no one else did and get that taken care of under warranty so they haven't lost me yet. the photo of the spyder on the trailer on the truck on the trailer on the truck showed me at least they are trying to a certain extent....I'll keep my fingers crossed I don't have to find another dealer- :pray:because I haven't heard of a better dealer within 200 miles!

I am so bummed that you are going through this and had to cancel your vacation :( I hope they find out what is wrong w/ it soon!

Mine is in for the same thing,I'll let you know what they find, should be today.

As promised,my Spyder was ready this afternoon.Any and all updates to software have now been done and the battery proved to be a dud. My dealer is quite large and very tuned into all BRP products. The Technician is confident that I am Good to Go!!! Well I know that it started just fine and seems to have a different feel to it.I did not get to go for much of a ride,in fact almost none,I'll drop you a line after the week-end and let you know how I do. I've got a good vibe on this!Later.....:2thumbs:
