There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Went to Decatur for a beer

I figure if Lamont can go to Pennsylvania for BBQ...

I loaded up my amateur radio gear about 10 AM and drove from Ft Gordon (Augusta), Georgia to the Atlanta area. I stopped by Stone Mountain to punish myself by humping a 12-pound HF radio up 800 feet of granite.

The weather was hazy, hot, and humid and I could often hear thunderstorms popping up to the east. Atlanta was barely visible for most of the day.

I called CQ for about three hours in the 20 Meter band (14 MHz), 17 Meter band (18 MHz) and the 10 Meter band (28 MHz). I heard plenty of stations, including a German on vacation in Jamaica talking to a guy in New Jersey, but nobody heard me. There's only so much you can do with 20 watts and a 10-foot whip antenna.

About 5 PM, I headed down and loaded back up. A short while later, I was in Decatur, home of the Brick Store Pub. I discovered this place about six years ago when I was in town for training. They have over 100 beers and a bunch on tap. I limited myself to one Porter with my dinner.

I left about 7:30 PM and got to my apartment about 10 PM. All together, I rode about 300 miles. I finally did something touristy in Georgia, as opposed to just driving back and forth to school, so I've officially added the state to the visited list!

I know flying around the Stone Mountain area there are warnings about magnetic compass readings being off (can't remember the amount) due to the iron, wouldn't that affect the transmissions too?

I'm not sure, but commercial radio and TV stations have broadcasted from up there. If there were any issues you'd think they'd stay away.

So what kind of beer????

I had gone there to try a microbrew Porter, but they cut back on those during the summer. I thought about getting a Pale Ale or an IPA, but I saw they had Sierra Nevada Porter on tap. I've had Sierra Nevada Pale Ale before (very hoppy) so I gave it try. I liked it. I'll have to see if I can find it in bottles.

Sierra Nevada Porter? I dont' think we have that in CT. I love Sierra Nevada Pale Ale - all I've seen around here.

I had no idea the GA had mountains - looks like I'll have to take a ride there.

Stone Mountain is an oddity. Sort of like Pilot Mountain, North Carolina, it rises out of the relatively-flat surrounding countryside.

However, the Appalachain Mountains extends into the northwest part of the state and the Appalachain trail begins here on Springer Mountain.

According to motorcycleroads.com, the Suches loop is Georgia's version of Tail of the Dragon.

Georgia has mountains... at least they think they are mountains. My brother lives in Blue Ridge Ga, a few hours north of Atlanta. Not too far from where Deliverance was filmed. I asked him if he had learned to squeal like a pig yet.

is home of TWO (Two Wheels only) motorcycle resort, good people, good food, great location. Let us know if you plan a trip up this way, riding in North GA mountains is fantastic. If you want to push your Spyder to the limit, No GA is the place. I know Spyderwolf offered to buy you a beer, I'll buy you lunch and a Root Beer (12 years sober).
