Story...
I installed an exhaust (Catalytic converter back), put high performance brakes and discs (Basically 3/4 ton system on a 1/2 ton) and new rims and tires....
Had the drive shaft u joints go bad... Took it in, they denied my warranty.
Long story short... Called my attorney... He laughed... Said watch the show :hun:...
Made one phone call, spewed off some newish law that went into effect, bam... Warranty work completed, even waved my deductible.
In the end I understand that there is a US law that states no warranty can be voided if maintenance needs have been met. No warranty will cover the non factory parts, and unless they can prove in a court of law that the aftermarket part caused the failure, it is covered.
Now.. This said.... If you "Modify" a factory part... The "Modified" part is no longer covered... Example... If you remove the ABS brake unit, modify it to have a front brake and a rear brake on an RS or RT (Old school Handle bar front brakes, foot is the rear) BRP can void the warranty of the entire braking system with full force of the law to back them up.
Remember... read my first few sentences... This is just my understanding of the situation as I experienced three years ago...
I think this went into effect because the manufactures abused the "Spirit" of the original law. And bent it beyond the intent of said law. (I joke here a bit) Like... "Oh sorry Mr Jones, you replaced your oil filter with a FRAM and it is not a recognized part by XYZ motor company. Your engine repair will not be covered by the extended or factory warranty"
Not only that, but many after market parts quality/life, purchased from a well known source have historically exceeded that of the original specs/manufacturer.
***EDIT*** Here you go... Good read =]...
