Corbin saddlebag finish cracking

:helpsmilie:I installed the Corbin saddlebags about three weeks ago. After riding twice in the first week I noticed cracking in the finish on the rear right saddlebag. Ive emailed Corbin numerous times with many pictures but have gotten nowhere. Has anyone seen this issue before and know whats causing it ?:gaah:

Heard from Corbin today. They are claiming the cracks are caused from an impact. I disagree because there is no impact mark on the finish and the surface of the bag is smooth leading me to believe that the cracks are under the clearcoat. Ive only rode the bike twice since installation and I think I would have heard an impact that hard to cause all those cracks.:gaah:

If you run your finger over the cracks you cant feel them which leads me to believe that they are under the clearcoat. The cracks dont go all the way thru the bag.

You are saying this as it looks like a tennis ball or other blunt object hit the bag and cracked the paint underneath the clear coat?
I would guess that it was more like a glancing contact with an object, but yes. Impacts don't always leave an external mark, but I have seen this type of damage on fiberglass before. The undercoats of paint are less flexible than the glass or the clearcoat, so that's where the damage shows up after the panel is "bent", and pops back out. Could be something as simple as hitting it with a foot while mounting.

I agree, this is impact damage and could have been caused from the inside of the saddlebag, not necessarily the outside. You have to be careful when loading the saddlebags with anything potentially heavy. Even dropping a socket wrench inside could cause this. I have had my Corbin bags for a year and a half, no issues except for the rubbing I had on the inside of the bag against the rear fender brace... which ended up being loose fittings.

That's really interesting...also interesting is Spydergirl's take on it...could be from the inside or outside...

I'm always one to cram things in and bang things to get them to close...guess it's a good thing I got the BRP bags as I'd certainly be having problems otherwise...

Yes, except the Corbin bags hold a lot more stuff. nojoke
As for the crack and my experience. I did notice a similar crack in the fiberglass on mine, but I couldn't tell you what exactly it was from or when it occurred. I do remember what they told me at the Corbin factory where they were installed... that is to be careful loading things into them as this could happen.

And I know I had dropped a socket wrench into there more than once by uninstalling them. And who knows what the dealer may have done with them either.

Sorry to hear about the damage to your bags. I got my painted black so I don't see mine anymore. :doorag:

I think thats pretty danged cheap if you have to be careful of how or what you load.If thats the case I think I would prefer the factory bags. Take a look at most factory bags that come out even on the H.D. I don't think I ever see any major issues like that. For a bag to flex that easy HMMM :dontknow: HIGH PRICE CHEAP QUALITY

I thought Corbin bags were made with R.I.M (Resin Injection Mold) The windscreen I bought from Corbin was made by this process and the resulting product is pretty heavy and not that strong.

I'll take quality over quantity with this issue. If you get lines/cracks over your bags, the aesthetics of this negates some of the positives. If they are going to say they have such a wonderful, advanced painting system, then they should stand behind it...

GIVI bags can be damaged also by improper loading. Besides, I hate side loading saddlebags. I love my Corbins. To each is their own. :)

BTW there is a factory warranty on these.

Trust me when I say their is no warranty for cracks in the finish from Corbin. I only rode the bike twice when I noticed the cracking and have spent the better part of the last 3 weeks discussing the issue with Corbin. They sent me an email stating they wanted me to send the bag back for further research. I didnt want to be without one bag for a month or two while they decided what to do. After I explained that to them I was called and told it was impact damage and I should take to a "good" body shop to have repaired. After numerous emails and conflicting answers from Corbin I was brushed off. I dont feel that bags that cost over $1000 a piece should crack the first week. I never heard or felt an impacts while riding, so it couldnt have been that hard of an impact. Should a small impact cause that kind of damage? :gaah::gaah::gaah:

It appears from others here that it does not cover paint issues....that is understandable as anything can happen, but you have to admit that with the case this thread is about, this is good evidence of a faulty paint issue. Corbin should step up and offer good customer service...

As far as the BRP bags getting banged up and such...I don't see how this could happen with the BRP bags...worst case scenario is that you break a plastic cover and just buy another for 110.00 to replace it...with the Corbins, you're going to be looking at a lot more cash...
