16 years of vacation rolled into one....

That is according to my lovely wife anyway :shemademe_smilie::thumbup:

Per her request, we picked up a Blue RT-S SE5 with CB/GPS. and a LOT of gear for us to go along with it..

Oh and the Two Brother Titanium Exhaust.. Love it BTW.. Installed it this morning before going to the office...

Little history....

About twenty years ago before I met my wife I was involved in a Motorcycle Accident that should have taken my life. In fact.. the three doctors comments to me (They worked on me) said not one out of 1000 would have lived. I am truly blessed and know it...

Lets just say... Stupid young adult with no helmet = IDIOT. Not a spec of dirt on my head after it was all said and done... But I needed my shoulder removed from my chest and skin replaced on my backside...

Did I mention IDIOT?

Anyway.. Not a chance in hockey sticks I will get back on two wheels...

When the Spyder first came out we looked at it off and on wanting to get one.

The past many years we have been riding Quads... Well my wife became injured at work and that slowed the riding to a crawl.

Then this past January our son was a passenger in an auto accident that took his live.. Driver walked away. Sigh... man this is hard to say....

Anyway... This is our 16 years of no vacations (Own a small business and worked Corporate America for to long) wrapped into one...

In the end... as soon as my wife saw the RT-S,..... She said we are getting one. Period... And like any good husband I listened to her every word and here we are :ohyea::roflblack:

Hope to see many of you on the roads in the future... :2thumbs::2thumbs::doorag:

**Edit***

Day one First impressions.....

OK.. So the Odometer had two miles on it this morning... Now it has 74.

Likes.... Well, I have so many I will just highlight a few that stand out.....

Stability...
Seat...
Adjustable passenger pegs...
Options...
LCD...
Sound system...
Our dealer.. Very pleased with our choice...

Dislikes...

Front trunk closing... Do not see that lasting long... To hard to get it to latch, tried many different ways...
The TAKES FOREVER starting sequence... Seriously, this needs to change...
Left rear Helmet closure. Yeah, it is to small for my helmet, and my wife's it seems.. Not happy about that...

Cuts power out to soon when going from a dead stop to a right or left turn, throttle hammered... Now keep in mind I do know how to push, and feel the limits. Some say (In the past) That I am not happy unless I am on the line between to far and not to far... But I am no where near the limits of this bike at 15mph coming from a dead stop. Takes the fun out of it...

These should come with a Hand brake, or at least as an option. I reached for it three times today and grabbed air... Thankfully no real issue, just me going DOH...

I am 6'2".. The windscreen at full rise is to low.. My line of sight is right at the top.. So I have to drive with it down a inch or two in order to not have blurred vision (Eyes going from plastic to clear air).

Horn is to close to the blinker.. I am sure I will get used to it.. But To me there are to close for the "No look" flick of the finger when signaling...

Factory exhaust... Yeah I said it...
:roflblack: And understand the target market was more towards the "Older" or correctly identified... "Matured/Seasoned" crowd... But it reminded me of a 1970's Chevy Impala with a power-glide Tranny spewing down the road.

Gas Mileage.... Wow.. 70 miles and I go from a full tank to a 1/4 tank? I bet the Analog gauge is the week link.. Or at least I hope so....

Anyway... I will post more in this first post as I go along a few times... Taking it with us this weekend to a trip we are going on... Going to northern Cali.. We see the weather is going to be 85f+
:ohyea::ohyea::ohyea:

We got the new trailer all dialed in and ready to go... Can't wait to watch heads whip as they see us....
:spyder::shemademe_smilie::bowdown:

Day Four.... First real ride.....

Wow.... What
a day!!! 86f... No clouds.... Nothing but road in front of us :yes::yes:

Tried the GoPro camera... Very easy to use... But our mount decision was poor. I will try a new way tomorrow.

We drove to Shasta Dam.... They no longer allow vehicles on the Dam for the mass public. That sucked...

Then we went to Wiskeytown Lake...

In all we put a small but longest ride for us so far of 110 miles. Therapeutic to say the least

What a pleasure these RT's are. :2thumbs:

Day 5...

Well we road a few more hours today. We learned that the wind screen is wonderful at 40 mph and over. :2thumbs::doorag:

Couple of nit picky items....
1) Heat on the right side is a bit much. We are going to look into where it is coming from and look for a way to re-direct it or get some pliable heat shield. It was 85f here again today. Did not notice it at all this morning when the temps had been 70f.

2) The rear suspension is wonderful in soft... Until you go to turn at any speed over 40mph. Found that one setting above the lowest is perfect for cruising, and one below the highest works just fine for hwy/sport riding. We are very happy we chose to get the Rt-S with this feature. It makes the adjust-ability almost to easy :D:roflblack::ohyea:

3) Found that 17psi in the front and 28 rear works the best for our size/weight. Not what BRP suggests. After-all it is just suggested

4) We think we are going to change the front shocks to setting 4. The cornering is a bit tougher than we expected it to be. Almost like there is no power assist when in gear. We know there is because at a stop we cannot move the steering to easily.

Overall we are very happy we made this purchase. :ohyea:

Congratulations on your purchase. So glad you are finally getting your "vacation". You have gone through some very rough times and more than most. We know how you feel, (wish we didn't) regarding the loss of your son. Our daughter went home to be with the Lord 3 years ago from an auto accident. But we can not live our lives in fear and the Spyders we own have opened up so many new opportunities and friendships. I am sure you will feel the same way, once you get out riding and meeting people. I am glad to see you two are living your lives and not simply existing. Enjoy your RT and continue to listen to your wife....:D

Welcome!

I commend both you and your wife for your spirit! Sorry for your troubles and losses. May your Spyder bring you as much joy as ours has brought us. You will "meet" some really wonderful people on this site. We hope to all meet in person at Spyderfest 2011.welcome

welcome

I hope the Spyder will bring lots of enjoyment to your lives, as it sounds like you really deserve some after all you have been through. Have a great time ryding together, and ryde safe.

Thank you all! Very kind.... I will be updating the first post a few times as we experience this "Y" factor....

Well I took it for a 69 mile road trip today... All back roads... Just a few hours ish. In Love! Done Sold Finished Complete Game over.......

Hands down the best fun I have had in three wheels =].... Fast, great sound, turns heads everywhere!!!

Got pulled over by an Officer.. Just wanted to check out the Bike!!! MUHahahahahaha

Had a guy holler it me at a stop light... Spoke back and forth for a block or two... he called and scheduled a test drive with the Dealer I purchased from!!

Got the trailer and Bike 100% ready for the trip... Looks like 85+ weather all week in Cali!!! OMG we are so excited....

We purchased the GoPro camcorder... If you have not seen these... You need to (Link)... Ordered up a pair of 32Gb's as well... Got it all today... ready to go!

This will be our first time using a camcorder outside and on a vehicle.. with practice I am sure it will all come out looking good

You will have to get used to this, along with planning to spend at least 15 minutes extra at the gas station every time you stop to fill up. :D

I hope you have a great trip, and get some really good video as well.

The Go-Pro cameras are great. I have one mounted on the front and rear of the Spyder. Get yourself a spare battery or 2 and a usb adapter. You can keep a battery charged in the rear trunk using the 12v hookup.

Day two.... A bit of drama.. No riding sadly...

In preparation of our trip in the morning.. I loaded up the RT with our gear... Inserted my key to the rear lock.. Turned it to the right to lock it up... Pulled the key out and along came the entire assembly!!! :yikes::mad: Keep in mind my helmet, Jacket and gloves are in two of the enclosures! LOCKED!!! Could not for the life of me get it to turn to the unlock position or go back in all the way....

Called my dealer.. Thankfully they had a late night.. Trailered our RT to them.. They pulled it out and will fix it when we get back...

Man oh man... Almost had to leave the RT behind :gaah::gaah::gaah:

welcome

Happy to here of your solution! The Two Brothers is maybe half the volume of the Harley... We met quite a few yesterday. Man what a difference. We also have the ability to add tips to quiet it down even more if preferred.

They do get warm. Not to much more than the stock one did. I chose the Titanium version for longevity. For some reason the Carbin one I tried on an ATV lasted two years and became really brittle. So I figured I would try out the Titanium, love the look! Amazing how much lighter it is. I do plan on getting the juice box later when they come out....:2excited:
