There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Nice job Harvey! I'll be ordering one also. For $20 you can't go wrong.

As I continue to rack-up the miles with this mod, I am amazed at how effective it is. How can something so small be so important? Never before have I seen three bars so much, even when the ambient temperature is in the 80's.

I wonder what miracle Harvey will come out with next?

How do I get in touch with Harvey at RPM, Inc. to order?

Thanks,

Craig

Look a couple posts up for the order information. You just have to send him an e-mail and he'll send you a PayPal invoice.

Yeah! I just finished shipping out the first batch of the "Missing Air Dam" so everyone that has ordered and paid should be getting theirs by this weekend.

Be sure to get back on here and spread the word after you see the difference.

There will be more "Missing Parts" in the near future and if you have seen my Spyder, you may be able to guess.

The website for SPYDERPOPS should be up and running by this weekend also so look for the banner add after this weekend.

THANKS FOR ALL OF THE ORDERS AND LOOKING FORWARD TO HEAR YOUR RESULTS!

After 2,000 miles test, it DID lower the engine temperature with 1-2 bars!
:chat:

Not pooping on this but..............

This doesnt solve heat soak at low speed/stuck in traffic situations. Its a bandaid for the real problem: LEAN CONDITION. If you give the Spyder fuel with a aftermarket fuel controller, your engine temps will drop, your exhaust temps will drop, your coolant temp will drop, your oil temp will drop, your spyder's motor will live MUCH longer.

There are alot of creative tricks for trying to keep the spyder cool, but none of them address it like the fuel situation.

You are absolutely correct about the lean condition as I have an aftermarket fuel controller and it did help with more fuel. No poop taken!

I designed this air dam after installing the aftermarket fuel controller and it has decreased the temp by 2 bars where the more fuel was really not noticeable on the gage.

Without going to the extra expense of the aftermarket fuel controller this "Missing Air Dam" provides the cooling when at speed that will help in the long run. As for stop and go traffic it is very relative as the heat soak is also lower and return to a cooler temp more rapidly when returning to speed.

Last summer when myself and 2 other Spyders were crossing the Mahove and ambiant temp at 123 degees F I ran at 4 and 5 bars. My friends ran at 6 and 7 bars and one went to the 9th. bar and then limp, his was tuned way too lean for speed.

Again, no poop taken however I have tested this for over 10k miles in various forms/designs and in all climates.

Thanks for your input!
Harvey

I have/had running problems at 5 bars in city traffic with high ambient temperatures, which I believe can be reduced, or eliminated, by the "second update". I had the second update performed in Cuba. Now, I am waiting for the right day to test the results. This has nothing to do with Harvey's miracle.

Harvey's mod gives me the most "bang for the buck" of any of the many changes made on my Spyder. The cost of Harvey's mod is insignificant, yet the improvement is very significant.

The airflow modification should be done on all 2008 and 2009 GS models.

Thanks Harvey! I am looking forward to the kits arriving.

It is also good to know that if they ever ship my Juice Box Pro to me I can expect even more benefit on the cooling front. :D

what's good for the goose...

...is not necessarily good for the gander accordingly to "some" on this site. I applaud Repops in coming up with this mod and offering it for sale. But in looking back at the "E bay spring trunk instructions LOL" thread, a person that offered a product was called a tool, a fool, sworn at, and in having a good gig if you can get it, and anyone who bought this item where idiots. I do applaud those that somewhat defended him and what he offered. But to me, no offense to Repops, this is the same type of deal and yet no one has queston the simplicity nor price of what is being offered. Why is it ok for some but not all on this site? :dontknow: I also agree 100% with what asmdjackal has said about "This doesnt solve heat soak at low speed/stuck in traffic situations..." But I guess I better keep my opinions to myself or start a new post. Again, Repops, good mod, good job and thanks for making it available.

Harvey lives just down the road from me and I got one for my Spyder last week. This thing does just what he said it would.
It lowers the temperature by two bars at speed. When stopped it does nothing but since the engine was cooler when you are at speed it takes it longer to get hot at the lights. Then it cools right down again as you accelerate. Good Mod. Good price.

I think the difference is in the value of each kit. The spring kit offered a $1 spring for $20. No science or pattern needed, just instructions that were already available on the forums. Obviously a high profit margin.

I have this type of insulation material available. It is a commercial product, and not readily available at the hardware store like the spring. Even with the product on hand, I feel I would spend more than the $20 involved to make up patterns, test the fit, and buy some adhesive to apply the air dams. This one is worth it to me...but I installed my own trunk spring. I don't think anyone is playing favorites, just commenting on what they perceive as the value obtained in return for their money.

great idea,
please let me know when I can order. I would like one. Also will you include instruction of installation?

Thanks,

The “Missing Air Dam” kit comes with the following; Professionally Die Cut Neoprene Closed Cell Sponge Pieces from Professionally Engineered/Designed tooling (out of pocket investment) through Reverse Engineering processes that includes Cavity/Empty Area measurement to create a product that was “Missing”. Easy to follow (picture/caption) instruction sheet is included along with a tube of very good 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive.

No surprise to add another "It Works" comment to the pile. 40 miles at 78 degrees today with stop and go, highway, backroads. Mostly three bars, but did move to four as ride moved into the city. Five bars only at stop lights and then back to four. How BRP failed to recognize this simple air flow management flaw is really amazing on a sophisticated bike like this. Last year on the Natchez Trace, I thought about covering the temp display with black tape so I wouldn't constantly be fixating on the bars. Now I think I will be able to ride without that fixation. Should add years to the life of the fan as it won't run as much. Thanks Harvey. :2thumbs:

Thanks BRPjunkie! That's a great review! Lamont made a banner on the home page so everyone will be able to see what this product will do.

I heard that one of the "Missing Air Dam" fans (many now!) will be posting a video of the temp guage when operating his Spyder in different conditions.

A batch goes to Australia tomorrow, can't wait to hear how it works down under!

I too went riding today with the same results! Thanks Harvey! (he installed mine in Cuba 2 weeks ago). It's a GREAT (inexpensive) mod.
