The Spyder standard air filter manufacturer code 2752...

Cross reference is not correct identifying this number... manufacturer name Napa Gold is standard part # 42752. This filter is available at Autozone, napa and I would guess many other auto parts stores. Price $9.99 in my area... may vary at your store depending on how high a cost area you live in.

Still to be vailidated by actual measurements...Another substitute the air filter is Wix pn # 42752-ea... note... on some sites you need to drop the -ea... price down here in my area is $14.90

Correct part number ... The correct K&N air filter for the spyder is CM9908 according to words right from the horses mouth.

Hope this helps those like me that have had to cut their expenditures for maintenance parts and still want to have top quality parts. I'm set in my ways and I really don't like "change"!

As soon as I can locate the fuel filter part number I'll find out about that one too.

Napa Gold filter is quite a bit better than the Fram. I stopped using Fram several years ago because the seals were leaking on the oil filters. I said several years ago... I should say prior to 1980. Man that is a long time ago. That is when I got acquainted with AMSOIL and never looked back. /Ken

Thanks for posting that info. We are currently running the K&N CM9908 filters, but my wife does not want a Juice Box on hers, so I am starting to look for a replacement.

is your wife's spyder running the stock exhaust or a Hindle? If running a hindle do you have all the updates? If she is still running the stock muffler and has already had all the updates it might be that part of the update didn't install properly. Also if your stock spark plugs have several thousand miles you might experience rough running.

I'm throwing these ideas into the pot because one of the SM5s only has 3500 miles on a stock set of spark plugs and it is running rough when cruising in 4th gear at 40 mph. The stock plugs don't seem to last... I'm getting ready to change to the iridiums as soon as I take the upper plastic off again.

I am going to install my new green filter at the same time. I know from past experience that the K&Ns flow a lot of air because they are thin media. Flowing a lot more air as you know will contribute to an ultra lean mixture which will cause rough mid speed and idle and will cause an engine to "nose over" at high speed because they lean out too much and lose power. /Ken

We are both running the K&N Filter with the Hindle Exhaust, so hers is as lean as mine is. She likes cruising more than performance, and has decided she would rather have creature comforts than a fuel modifying gadget.

Okay, big question now. I went to NAPA and they ordered me a couple of NAPA Gold 2752 filters as he said that matched the Wix 42752. I brought them home and went to install one on my wife's Spyder, and it is too big. According to some other searching I did on the net, the Wix 42752 is 6.5 inches by 9.5 inches, while the K&N that fits perfectly in the box is only 5.25 inches by 8.125 inches. This means the current filter is over 1.25 inches too big in each direction.

Has anyone else had this problem, or is there something else I should have done to attempt to force it into the hole? :dontknow:

It does appear to be a very nicely built filter, to include large pleats on both sides of the element.

It appears that some of the air filter master cross references may be incorrect. See my first post on this thread. Do not order an air filter using data from my first post until I can check it out. I have checked the numbers again and they do cross correctly but are not the correct size. I suspect the manufacturers have a part number .vs. size conflict and changed the part numbers but have yet to up date the two cross references I used. See below.

So a big thumbs up :2thumbs:to spyderwolf for finding a quality substitute at a reasonable price.

Spyderwolf ran into a problem with the napa gold 2752 number being too big. However, he did find another napa gold filter that is the correct size. See below for information!

I actually dug back through my post when I installed the K&N Filters, and found a perfect picture of the stock air filter. It was a Purolator A13192. I found one of these at Advanced Auto Parts for $8. It also cross referenced to a Fram CA3559, which I did not find. However, NAPA had a cross reference to a NAPA Gold 6120 which was a nice tight fit. :thumbup:

about the life span of the stock plugs.

I have over 16k on a stock set of plugs....have been contemplating changing them, but am not having the rough running issue so was letting 'em ride for now. I know, the owners manual says to change them, I believe at the 12k service; don't have access to my manual right now so correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm also using a K&N with a Hindle exhaust. Other than an occasional pop on decel when I haven't rolled the throttle all the way off, I am not having problems with that set up.:dontknow:

These are the filter options for the people who want to continue to run stock filters, but do not want to pay nearly $40 for the filter. It also works well for those that may have an aftermarket exhaust system, but do not want to take the performance to the next level.

Most people should already know about the Green Filter, K&N, and Evo ones if they are looking into more performance. Those are probably the same people that would not mind adding a Juice Box or similar set up to their Spyder.

The official BRP roadster shop manual states "spark plugs are inspected at 600, 100KM, 6000 mi, 10000 KM, and to replace at 12000 mi, 20,000 KM, or two years.

I suspect the main reason for the inspection and replacement schedule is due to the fact these engines run pretty lean which increases the temperature in the area of the spark plug tip. Higher temperatures shorten plug life. Also there is a possibly of the plug threads seizing in the aluminum head if they are left in too long. A master Goldwing mechanic pointed this out to me many years ago. That is the reason Honda wants the plugs pulled every 4000 miles according to him. If you pull them for inspection... I would definitely re-coat the threads with the heat sync paste.

I'm sure one of the master mechanics could give us a better explanation of what is happening to the plugs.

But since Spark Plugs are inexpensive and you never know when one might fail and ruin you trip I'd definitely stick to their schedule or sooner. I personally change mine at a maximum of 10,000 miles and sooner depending on the smoothness of idle and acceleration. I don't like having to do maintenance on the road. And I definitely don't like running on one cylinder in heavy traffic. Around here traffic is light but on rare occasions I do go into the big city.

UPDATE! AFTERMARKET AIR FILTERS FOR...

those that do not wish to pay 30 for a filter or run the green filter.

Pictures attached. The air filter with the black seal is the one that came from the factory, about $30. The orange one is the Napa Gold 6120, total with tax $9.38 at my Napa in melrose.

See the pictures both look the same except for the rubber sea colorl. Probably made by wix. Ken krb1945

I bought the purolator.... $7.59 at advanced auto. Side by side with BRP filter and I can't tell the difference.

My opinion if there running good leave them alone.

I had to replace my Y gaskets at 11 thousand miles, So i figured i might as well change the plugs at the same time. They looked fine and the Spyder ran fine but being i had the plugs out, I tried iridium plugs, Big mistake ran better with old plugs. So after 12 hundred + miles with the iridium i went back to new stock. I should have put the original back in from the start. :dontknow:

If the air filter you got from advance is the purlator a13192 it is the exact same filter as the BRP filter just less expensive. Ken krb1945

For those that dont know, NAPA Gold filters are made by Wix, they just rename it for NAPA. Same goes for thier oil filters. Wix is a very good quality product so the NAPA filters are also very good.
