• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Garmin 550 wiring?

Does anyone have pics on how they routed their GPS wires on the RT? I pulled some panels today and was trying to determine the best way. Are people going up through the steering column? I manged to get a fish line through there but there wasn't enough space to pull my cable through.

I went through the center of the steering column for two wires, the power and the audio cable. There's lots of room, but there's a jug turn in there. I wish I had pictures of my installation, but I pretty much followed the instructions for the OEM 660.

Hope this helps. I've got a pdf of the OEM installation, but it's too big to post. PM an email address and I'll send it to you

Thanks for the help. I never noticed that access point before. Is that a cover plate? Did you wire to the battery and how did you fish your wires?

I wired up a fuse box exactly as ataDude did in this post

http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5753:

I wired to the new fuse box, fishing the wires up to the inside of the frunk.

I removed that access cover in the middle of the handlebars. It's just a piece of plastic. The OEM 660 mounts over the hole and closes it. No such luck with the 550. I found that I could nibble a little bit off the top to make room for the two wires, power and audio, and then reinstalled the cover to minimize the opening in the middle of the handlebar.

Here are some photos

This is the finished install. I made a faux plate to fill the Garmin mount because I think it's pretty skanky looking without the GPS installed.

I hope this helps.

Cable Source

Looks good SKS06460. Where did you get the 3.5mm stereo audio cable with the 90 degree connector? And how long is the cable. I assume you plugged it into the adapter in the trunk(?). Thanks!

I don't know. I've got another one, I assumed they all came that way.

The cable is not long. I installed a Starcom 1 intercom system with an Amplirider to consolidate a couple of audio inputs.

Both units are mounted inside the fairing on either side of the glovebox.

I ran the other audio cables from the Starcom to the rear trunk, so I have my cell, IPOD, and CB radio in the rear trunk out of the way.

Here's something unexpected. If I connect the 3.5 mm from my IPOD into the Starcom, and also connect the IPOD integration cable to the RT stereo, I can put the RT speakers on mute and listen to the headsets, but I can still use the ECC to change songs.

The only thing missing, I can't integrate the RT radio into the Starcom headsets. That would be the best situation, but I don't know how to do that yet.

You need to figure out the radio wires that are intended to output to the factory CB unit that would have ultimately routed to the factory headset. I intend to figure this out as well for my setup. Alternatively you could use a line level converter to tap into the speaker wires, but the external speakers would still be audible. Relays could take care of that, but not the ideal solution in my opinion.

When you figure this out, please post clear directions. I would appreciate it a great deal.
