• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

i had a chance to ryde the RT without being in a caravan of spyders so i can ryde how i normally ryde and i decided not to get a RT.
of course i like the all the gadget on RT and the comfort but brp did suck all the sportiness out of spyder with RT and i like the sportiness of RS a little more. i did feel i was too upright on RT also.
i was having second thoughts about RT while i was waiting for silver one to hit the showroom(i did not like blue or black), and when i finally saw the silver RT i did not like that color neither, so that just pushed me toward keeping RS even more.

bad news is i gotta start all over again with RS as i sold all my mods off in anticipation of getting a RT:opps:
i ordered a slider windshield from F1 windshield(i don't know about the man but i am sold on his slider windshield) and speakers and amplifier from crutchfield.
i will be getting evoluzione's race air flow system, anti sway bar, RT shocks and hindle. hindle may or may not be the best but it just looks like it belongs on spyder so i will not get leo vince this time around.
i do wanna look into kewlmetals high-flow air system also.

I had to giggle about the parts, but on the bright side, I guess you'll know how to put all the parts on.

aka1004, what is the set-up you are getting from crutchfield with regard to your amp and speakers? Where are you or did you install the speakers? Looking for ideas to do the same.

Thanks!

i don't have the pic in this laptop but if you look on "my mods" section of the forum and look for my thread you will see the set up i had before.
this time it will be just an amp and 2 speakers but it will be better quality 6 2/1" component speakers only. last system did take too much room in the frunk. i will have to make fiberglass speaker pods again for same spot.

that is true...
i took my panels off so many times to do variety of stuff on spyder, i am somewhat of a spyder mechanic now:D

oh and add Triple Play, fogs, hid to the list.:2thumbs:

Wow! Once I saw the RT in person I quickly decided it wasn't for me as well. You may want to check out ESI's stuff and hold off on a couple of your mods, like the fog lights. Evan has been posting some really cool things that may make you want to go in a different direction this time.

Best of luck starting over with it.

:agree: I felt the same way about the RT. I did like it, but not as enjoyable driving day-to-day. If I had my choice, I'd have both.

When my 3 year warranty runs out on my SE5 I'll take a hard look at the RT. I tried sitting on one and it didn't seem like good fit for me at 6'8" but it may be simple enough to modify it to fit.
I wonder what kind of trade in I'll get on mine....?

There isn't a V-twin made that can come close to the smoothness and torque of a Valkyrie. Buy a Valk for your road trips, and leave the extra $14K for the RT in the bank… just my $0.02

aka1004, checkout the amp and speaker enclosures from Audio Formz.
They have some good looking products.

thank you  and they look good but for spyder, where i have the speakers were the place for minimal sound loss and custom enclosure had to be made and i thought about going with amp like audio formz sell but because there were only room for 2 speakers, i went with good quality car amplifier with low electricity draw. it seems that amp will fit behind the gauge cluster thou.:2thumbs:

Thanks all for the feedback on audio recommendations. I plan on installing my Jensen JHD905 and am now thinking about external speakers. So from what I am reading I will place a amp in the frunk and speakers somewhere up around the dash. Question - At speed (say 70 MPH) what is a sound from external mounted speakers? I know it wont be crystal clear but I at least want to here the tunes..

I want to keep them off the bars as I already have my Zumo 550 and the JHD905 will be there. I found this amp and speaker set from DWG which I think may work for me. It appears to be an intro level set up for around $119. Any comments or thoughts on the below link?

Also anyone got a good recommendation for a AM/FM whip antenna w/recommended mounting location on the Spyder? Right now I have purchased an amp'ed concealed one, but am reading it wont get as good a signal.

Thanks!

that DWG set was the first audio system i had and you will not hear them going at 70mph. you know there is music but it's just all a blur. i first had them mounted on rear view mirror arms and could not hear them going 50 but when i moved them to handle bar it did get better. location is very important for the speakers. 5 4/1" polk audio you see in pic below did much better at high speed but i decided to go with 6 2/1 this time to move more air as i am not planing for sub woofer this time.

I looked into that jensen unit you are going to use, and it's a self-amplified unit without a RCA-output. you can connect that to amp using speaker out but usually those amp that have speaker level inputs are low quality amp. i suppose you can use jensen and just add speakers to it but amplification may not be enough.

RT shocks.. I had just ordered a set of RT shocks before I messed up my Spyder's frame..actually haven't received them yet..but couldn't cancel and there is a return stocking charge and I would have to pay to ship them back..so if you are interested... $175 shipped... also will be selling Kewlmetal's Performance Air Filter...

Im gona keep what I have. The price is too much for me.

So, if money wasn't an object, you'd switch? I think the RT is one sharp looking machine...I could get one, if I wanted, but I like the sportier look of the GS/RS and I'm not going to be doing too much touring anyway, so my ole GS is good for me...

They are both great machines, but I really think the RT is best suited for the person who is going to be doing a lot of long trips...something I don't do...with the RT bags on my GS, I should be fine with the occasional trip...at the DC show, I did fiddle around with the RT...very, very cool!...I noticed that most people looking at it were HD guys whose wives were all saying 'I'd get on this if you had one'...it was funny to see this...as they didn't ride on the two wheelers, and their husbands wanted a bike they would ride on...this will certainly be a great bike for those who ride all the time, and on longer trips...
