• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Mods and upgrades for my spyder

Well, I've had my spyder for a while now and put on over 20,000 miles since I've owned it. It's been a pretty good ride for me without any major issues so far. Now I'm in my next phase and want to add some upgrades and mods to bring my spyder to my liking.
I've done some research and seen other peoples spyders. Some things I really like, some I don't, and some are just not for me, not to insult anyone. It really does come down to personal preference and the comfort level or appearence we desire in our spyders. these are some of the upgrades and mods I will be adding soon:

1. Corbin smuggler trunk and corbin seat and backrest.

2. BRP Givi saddle bags, Passenger foot peg extentions and 23 inch ultra touring windscreen.

3. ISCI floor boards with shifter, brake lever and parking brake extention.
(Thanks rnet for letting me check these out on your spyder!)

4. New PC-8 fuse panel, two powerlet sockets, tank bag socket and other accessories from Eastern Beaver. I now have a Centech fuse panel for accessories, but I think the PC-8 is a better unit.

5. New Oxford heated Grips from Lockitt.com. My Symtec heated grips no longer are working. Somthing is shorting and causing the fuse to blow. I just haven't had time to trouble shoot them. I do like the Oxford heated grips and controler and hope it will serve my purpose better.

6. Mirror Extenions and fan gaurd from Kewlmetal

7. Some lighting upgrades from ESI, like the mud flap lights, givi saddle bag lights ect.

I will be using some income tax return and taking on a small loan for all this stuff, because if I wait for all the cash I will never get it done. I just seem to live, work and pay bills anyhow, so WHAT THE HECK I SAY!
This will be just under $5,000 in upgrades. For me this will make my spyder my own personalized sport tourer, which will be better for long distance travel. I may consider adding some new graphics as well, but that will be in another phase sometimes in the future. I will need to give that some thought. I'll let you all know when some of these mods start to come together.:D

:2thumbs: Did you get some nice warm weather up there today?

It was kind of overcast all day, but yesterday was a nice day. I rook a short ride today and still had to use the heated gear. They are calling for cooler temps next week. It's kind of a roller coster weather pattern these days. I hope the weather stays warm soon.

You have quite the project ahead, now I'll have to see yours next. Maybe at americade, that should give you some time to get most of them done. Me, I've still got a few things waiting to put on mine, but just not the time yet. Work is off, but I've been doing allot of work on my garagemahal as it's been called. Trying to get thinks done for my sons graduation party in July. Hope to see you at americade. Ron

Well, I don't think everything will be done before the Americade, but I do hope to have some of it done. By the way how do you like the 23" BRP windscreen, pros, cons, ect...? That is what I want to add to mine. I just like the clean look.

If I was to do it again I would get the 25" one and here's why. Since I have the ESI risers and the ISCI floorboards I sit pretty upright so wind is right at the top of my helmet and passengers get a little more wind. I think the taller one would take care of this. Hand protection is the best, but it also works well with the stock location of the mirrors. You may not need those heated hand grips, but you ride in a little colder weather than I.

I think that personalizing your machine is great! It's a big chunk of change for the addons, but still less than 1/3 the price to get the same addons by trading for an RTS. Enjoy installing the "Bling"!

Have had terrific customer service from Symtec on the Heat Demons. Ours worked, but were not warm enuf. They checked them out, and replaced one of them elek traw nick thingys - now things are toasty.

If you are going with the BRP shield, then rmet is right, the shield and mirrors do offer good hand protection from the wind, but, I think, mirror extenders would detract from this. I left the stock mirrors where they were and used bar end mirrors to increase visibility. They work well and have the added advantage of doing so no matter what type of risers you might choose.

Thats a good point! The stock position of the mirrors really don't bother me that much anyhow. Right now though I'm still not 100% sure I will even add the shield. I kind of like the low sporty look. It's on those cold early spring or late fall rides that a taller shield would be nice. I just have to decide which way I will go.

The Givi shield doesn't offer the hand protection, but it looks pretty decent, and offers better protection than the BRP standard touring shield (not either ultra-touring shield). It is reasonably priced, too.

Well, it's very quick and easy to change shields to suit the changing weather if you decide to go that route.

Now the serious fun begins.

As you stated, it is best to mod it for yourself and not worry about what others may think of what you have done to it. Best of luck pulling everything together without any problems.
