Well, it happened again. The dreaded limp mode. This time I learned a few things by trial and error. These may have already been known by others and posted, but I will re-cap my experience. I got a DPS fault while steering aggressively around a curve at about 65 mph. It threw it into limp mode and I pulled over and killed the engine without removing the key. Upon restarting the limp mode didn't clear, so I drove 20 miles in limp mode, but found that the bike will cough and sputter in 1st through 4th gears, but when it hits 5th gear things sooth out and you can get up to about 45-50 mph at the low rpms that limp mode holds you to. It seems counterintuitive that a higher gear should run better at low rpms than a lower gear, but it works. Went back to the dealer who was clueless and called Can Am who made all sorts of suggestions, thinking it was possibly related to a brake light switch, but all that checked out OK. I was having some squeal in the brakes and they sprayed down the rotors with the ant-squeal spray. That fixed the noise, and I have driven another 120 miles with no further problems. (Knock on wood). I am now up to 600 miles and ready for the post break-in service. Hopefully my problems are behind me.
While I am thinking about it, after I got home in limp mode I cut the engine and removed the key. I then went through the normal sequence and started, and was out of limp mode, running normally. If anyone can explain what might be going on I would appreciate the info. I have an RTS SE.
