• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

About the charging power, just came across this in BRP Go's FAQ page:

Yes. Recommended cable stats: USB 2.0 or higher, supports 3 amps, offers a data transfer speed of at least 480 Mbps, and is no more than 6 inches long.

  • Appear on top (Settings > Apps > BRP GO! > Appear on top > On)
  • Nearby devices & Phone (Settings > Apps > BRP GO! > Permissions)

  • Current: 500 Milliamps (mA) or 0.5 Amps (A)
  • Max Power: 2.5 Watts (W)

USB 3.0 is slightly higher, but still less than what BRP suggests:

  • Voltage: 5 Volts (V)
  • Current: 900 Milliamps (mA) or 0.9 Amps (A)
  • Max Power: 4.5 Watts (W)
And the USB connector in my 2024 Spyder RT Sea2Sky is a USB A type with a white connector, which usually indicates USB 1.

I'm pretty sure the standard specifies the minimum current that a compliant USB host must supply. Some can supply more. And as is true with any regulated power supply, it will produce only the amount of current that the load demands. A 500mA USB host will not (indeed cannot) "jam" 500mA into a load that isn't calling for that much.

Right Angle USB A Male to USB C Female Adapter, USB to Type C Connector​

The right angle converter converts USB A to USB C and enables the cable to fit snug in the glove box. The dust cap means when you take your phone off the bike the cable end is sealed against moisture and the connector doesn't corrode. The cables provide more than enough data bandwidth than the Spyder can transmit at. I put the right angle connector at the phone end, where I put on of the dust caps.

I string the USB C cable from the right angle adapter down through the bottom of the glove box, through where the rubber bung can be removed, and then fed out under the body work to appear at the steering head and then zip tied along the handlebar to my phone mount. Note, the glove box just lifts out to gain access to the rubber bung to feed the cable through, no drilling required.

Although a USB 2 A connection or cable has a 480 Mbps data rate, the Spyder like many automotive systems actually transmits data at a significantly lower data rate than that. The burst rate for a packet may be that rate, but the average transfer rate is way, way lower. Apple CarPlay doesn't need anything like 480 Mbps to play music or run apps over a USB connection. The display hardware probably uses an embedded USB capability within the SoC hardware that may negotiate at that data rate, but will be lucky to work at a tiny fraction of that as an aggregate transfer speed.
