• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

My 2025 RTL Display has blacked out a couple of times - any thoughts?

If this is the case, which is not a bad idea, you could insist your dealer installs a Yuasa battery. Mine was in UT. If they have any sense, they'll spend a little more on the battery to reduce the number of warranty returns.

When you get home, you might want to take it out, charge it fully on the bench, and then put it back, complete with the battery maintainer pigtails which you have to fit anyway. That first full charge is important. The dealer will probably not do that and will go with whatever charge it has in it when they get it into inventory.

I think they do this on the assumption that once they've installed a battery with whatever charge it has in it (regardless of whether that's just the dribble left over from the 'thoroughly cursory quick zap' of a charge that it got when it was made, or maybe they were conscientous enough to give it a couple of hours of charging before installing it, but they rarely give them the minimum of 8+ hours of 'proper charging' that they really need in order to be truly 'initialised and fully charged' to start with!), then you riding it home will be a long enough ride to charge the battery up sufficiently to negate the need for them to do that initial full charge, apparently not realising (or maybe they DO know, but are just ignoring that cos they think you DON'T know?! 🤬) that the vast majority of motor vehicle alternators ARE NOT DESIGNED TO, NOR ARE THEY TRULY CAPABLE OF, 'FULLY' CHARGING A NEVER CHARGED &/or a NEW/DEEPLY DISCHARGED BATTERY!! 😐

Most alternators are only designed & capable of 'topping up' the charge in a battery to usable levels and then maintaining that level, but most won't actually ever 'Fully' charge your battery, and they generally take at least 30 minutes of riding at max alternator output revs just to replace the charge depleted by ONE start (btw, that's 30 mins for 'normal' cars, it's somewhat more for our extremely power hungry Spyders!) and that thing about giving your new battery a 'FULL' charge before setting it to work is an extremely important/essential part of setting the battery up so that you stand ANY chance of getting anywhere near close to it's 'normal life expectancy' - you don't do it, your battery WILL NOT last as long as it could, meaning you'll be forking out for a new one again, much sooner than strictly necessary!! :rolleyes:

Hmm, hang on, who's likely to get more business/greater profits by doing this?! 🤨 Could it possibly be a deliberate decision on the dealer's behalf?? :eek:

I'd put money on ignorance. If the battery has enough charge to start the bike you just bought it must be good to go.

I got my Spyder the 5 miles home, took the battery out and then charged it overnight. With a 4 AMP maintainer it drew over 2 AMPs until it was fully charged sometime the next day and I put it back in, plus the maintainer tails.

My Spyder came with two slightly different battery brackets, so I suppose they are expecting fitting one of two slightly different battery types, shapes or sizes, as being possibly installed. I wondered why that was at the time.

Now it just needs to be topped up a little after local rides. Longer runs and it comes home and pretty much jumps to fully charged and into float mode after 5 minutes on the maintainer.
