Pleased with my Smooth Spyder Belt Tensioner for my RS

Well I finally bit the bullet and purchased a belt tensioner from Jim @ Smooth Spyder. Wow, what a difference that makes in removing all of the harmonics from your driveline. Jim's website name says it all.

I seem to be spatialy challenged when it comes to figuring out how something is supposed to mount. I did however finally get the orientation correct. What a beautifully engineered piece of equipment.

I am well pleased; just should have done this about 48,000 miles ago. Jim makes tensioners for all the model lines. So when I eventually trade up to a F-3 or an RT I will be able to take care of the harmonics early on rather than later.

Jim is a pleasure to work with, always kind of word and patient with your myriad idiotic questions. Another of the good guys to purchase your desired farkles from. Check him out. And no he didn't pay me to say this.

Nice testimonial

Have had his tensioner since 2012. Know you got the new improved one but mine has done well for the last 40,000+ miles. Mine came with a fish scale to set the tension. Are the new ones adjustable..? Glad you finally went for one but bet you are the happiest one...

It's a vibration dampener!!;) Myself, when I have the side cover off mine next, I am planning on taking my dampener off to see if I can live without it! I like keeping it stupid simple, and take out the things that may interfere with a good ride! I can live with a little vibration, but I can't ride if the belts rip up because the little wheel blew up! Stupid simple!! I come from a family who rode old Harley's back in the day, now that's vibration in my book!!

I removed the vibration dampener around 20k miles ago and don't miss it. For me, I don't notice any difference in vibration either, and I don't want to be anywhere, other than in my driveway, with a belt that gets destroyed along with leaving me stranded. Just trying to keep it simple.

I have 60K miles on my 2020 RTL, 4th rear tire, never had to change the belt tension, or move the drive belt.
It came from the dealer without a vibration dampener, never could understand why some people need to have one!

Guess, I'm lucky, Bill

Didn't have one on the 2012, and I feel the same way!!!

On the other hand, my 2020 F3S came with the OEM dampener which failed at close to 10,000 miles. Ran it for a while without the dampener but the vibrations were not to my liking. I've been using the Lamonster dampener for a few years now with no problems. I've replaced the roller once just for preventive measure and I've not had any issues in over 50,000 miles.
