• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Need a measurement please for handlebars.

I am looking into ideas to reduce some shoulder and neck pains I get when riding. I installed a riser to get bars back some, but I don't feel its enough. I saw a few threads of "short reach" bars but no actual comparison to know if by chance the previous owner already installed them. I would hate to buy a pair, only to find it is what I already have. I measured mine today and this is what I have come up with. Between the red lines it is from the control caps across, so the actual bar is 13 1/4". The green line is from what would be a straight edge across left to right to top of bar @ triple tree. Approx 4 5/8" to say 5" and about 32 1/2" from bar end straight across to the other. Thanks.

Check out this thread:

&/or search on 'Handlebars' or 'Short Reach Handlebars' with the 'Search titles only' box ticked. Good Luck. (y)

I have checked several threads about the bars. So far no where I have seen any kind of measurement to indicate what "length" bars I have or what "short reach" bars measure. All I ever find is "2-3 inches further back" Without some sort of reference as to where the beginning is I have no idea. Unless somewhere I missed an actual reference to a this point.

Only trying to help... :sneaky:

Yours isn't a new problem, there's a lot of info already on the Forum about just this subject, people have been posting on it since the first F3's came out over 10 years ago. So try entering the word 'Handlebars' or even "Short reach" (with the quotation marks), and then ticking the 'Search titles only' box in the Search field). ;)

That said, you need to read thru the whole thread I linked earlier, the tape measure in post #18 of that thread should help with at least some of the actual measurements you asked for (only it uses a tape measure & cloth tape instead of red & green lines ;)), but do go on to read the next page, there's more discussion about which bar is what over there that might be important in whatever choice you make.

However, you also need to remember that whatever bars you fit, those bars won't simply project back horizontally toward the rider from their mounts, they'll stick up from the mounts at an angle and lean back toward the rider, so even with an actual measurement as shown in your pic earlier, the distance between the bars and the rider will be somewhat different due to the geometry of that lean. And also remember that there is some leeway and adjustment available in that angle - so even if someone else who is exactly the same height, arm, torso, and leg length as you does give you a measurement from the bar mount to their crotch, you could fit those exact bars to your Spyder and end up with a different measurement, simply because you mounted the bars at a slightly different angle, making the geometry of YOUR installation a little different to the geometry of THEIR installation and so giving you a different reach. 😖

There's only a little scope for adjustment in any of the OEM bars on the F3's, so there's always going to be a little bit of guesswork and a judgement call involved concerning which OEM bar will suit you best, and buying any other OEM bar based on those measurements MIGHT help you, but there again, it might not... So if you REALLY want to be sure that you can adjust any replacement bar you choose to purchase, you should probably be looking for Heli-bars, which are pretty much infinitely adjustable in more ways than any of the OEM bars - they don't look sexy, but if you've got the $$ & the space for them, they do work! 😊

Just Sayin' ;)

Thanks for directing attention to the tape measure one. I didn't blow it up to see the tape in it. Looks to be about 7.5" or so from the triple tree to the upper bends, yes? Its been a while since I had mine off to put the riser block on, but I think there was a locator pin that limited how much "tilt" you can induce. Up some would be good, along with the back. The Heli Bars would be very adjustable, but OMG , looks like you need a loan to buy them! So I'll opt for standard type short reach bars.
