Have it tested. It's the only way to get beyond guessing. We've had customers who had their oil tested every 1,000 miles. That really tells the story. Not suggesting you do that. They were getting it done for free through their work. But testing at oil change can be very informative.
Abso-bleedin'-lutely right!!
Mind you, I reckon that testing every thousand miles on anything that isn't absofreakinlutely mission critical is probably a bit of over-kill and likely a waste of money! I don't (and haven't for decades) tested on
EVERY oil change! I only test every about third oil change, but I guess I probably do more miles each year than most on
my Spyder, so I'm still sending oil change samples off for testing once, or at most, a couple of times a year - it's still often enough to catch any significant issues, but not so often that it breaks the bank/has me sending off a new sample every month.
But by testing and watching the trends in the test results, I
KNOW my oil is lasting, and I
KNOW about the state of wear inside my 2013 RT's engine - and with my current riding levels, oil use and change practices, and the state of wear in my engine to date, I should
easily be able to rely on it for another couple of hundred thousand miles.
It doesn't cost much &/or take too much effort to do an oil change & take a sample to send off for testing, and the results, or possibly more importantly, the
trends revealed by those results are the only real way of knowing what's going on in there!
Go on, DO IT! You know you should, and that you really want to!
