• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Need Help with an alert - what does this mean?

I received an anonymous post as an Alert concerning my post and that it was edited.
I cannot locate the instructions on Thread thumbnail rules. The link does not work. I cannot find the link nor know who to ask where is this rule located? I cannot find it in the menus that pop up on the left side of my screen. Editing picture size from an iPhone is challenging and figuring out the difference between posting a picture and posting it as a thumbnail is beyond me even with an Alert to only post thumbnails (?)

It appears you had an incorrect attachment size and a moderator fixed it for you.
If your post is still there and it is showing a small thumbnail, you don't need to change anything.
You do need to review the instructions on posting thumbnails before posting another image.

That’s the problem-finding the instructions to review. That is not a functioning link and I cannot locate the instruction. I cannot even inquire from whomever posted that edit.
Ahh, there they are at the bottom of this screen!

The link to the following message thread doesn't work for you?

No it was not working from within the Alert Text. Then I happened to scroll down the page and found numerous threads like the piece of one you posted, which opened up like blue text on mine usually does.
Thanks though. iPhones can be a pain. Like someone else having difficulty, I’m also using an iPhone 12. I did download an app that allowed me to resize my pictures and was then able to post them and thought okay great. However, the iPhone picture needs to be resized, not always but most of the time, and then attached, inserted as a thumbnail, then saved.

Oh, so you're using an iPhone to post the pictures to the forum?

I haven't tried that, although I am an Apple user and am posting this from a Mac.

Some links that have instructions about posting pictures.
All the pinned topic there are things you may need to know about this forum.

The pinned topics on the Spyder General Discussion Forum also have information to help new users not familiar with the forum format.
Whatever you are looking for should be at the top of one of those two sub-forums.

The topics at the top of those lists are pinned and will remain at the top of the lists to make them easy to find.

We all use different devices and operating systems to post on these forums. Some are more difficult to use because they don't have some of the apps needed to reduce picture size. They will all work and the apps can be added to them to make them easier to use on these forums.

I believe I need to jump on a computer and see how this looks on there. The format on my iPhone appears to be missing some features or just arranged differently. Practice and reading will help. Just like disassembling the RT to get to the spark plugs.

Actually removing tupperware is more intuitive than posting pictures since the recent new hosting of the forum. :ROFLMAO: It's right up there with a newbe trying to make a Spyder steer straight out on the highway!

Just like disassembling anything to inspect and replace parts...
You read the appropriate section in the shop Manual, before you start taking stuff apart.

And just sometimes those shop manuals are grossly inadequate for the task at hand.

True, but the second time you do the job, you read your own notes written in the margins or on the blank pages in the back of the manual. Some guidance is better than no guidance at all.

I am extremely grateful for what you and the other members post on here. Sharing your experiences fills in the blanks. I find it always better to learn from others mistakes, so I don’t have to make them all myself.
Pertaining specifically to software instructions. I am a member of a half dozen forums and most of them are somewhat close to each other, but just different enough to allow me to stumble around while figuring out the peculiarities. Thank you.

Every one of us here had to learn to use the software when we first came here. Then just a short while ago the entire forum software was replaced with a different version which nobody knew how to use. We all had to learn the new software without any help from any previous users. It is just something that happens on the Internet. Software has to change to keep up with the latest anti- virus, anti-spam, and updated forum software that is available.

Thanks to all those above who've replied here - it's always good to see the 'members in the know' stepping up and helping those still coming to grips with the platform! (y)

Further to what's already been explained, if you get one of those Alerts, it's an automatic (almost - well, sorta, anyway...) notification informing you that the Mod/Admin Team has done something to your post in order to allow it to show/display properly for all &/or remain displayed, usually briefly outlining what has been done and generally including a link or explanation of what you should do for future posts. If the included link won't work for you, then you should still be able to copy and paste it into your browser's address bar in order to see the Sticky. The Sticky's are those threads that are 'pinned' to the top/first spots on the index listings for each Section/sub-forum, and they'll appear in those top/first spots on every index page for that sub-forum. Look for the pins, they're generally visible just to the left of where it shows the number of Replies in the thread - if you see a Pin on a thread that you haven't yet read, then you should read it, as that thread will likely hold info that will help you get the best from the Forum &/or your Spyder/Ryker. ;)

When it comes to posting pics/images, if they are small enough to 'attach' to your post (as yours in this instance was, LesC, or the alert wouldn't have begun with 'Fixed in this post...' in order to let you know that the attachment you added to this post, which likely either couldn't be seen properly by some viewers or was at risk of disappearing, has been inserted by the Mod/Admin concerned and is now able to be seen by all/shouldn't be at quite the same risk of being lost), then you/your phone won't need to re-size it any further! Instead, the Alert is telling you that while this post is now OK, the next time you post a pic, don't stop after only attaching it (tenuously!) but instead, finish the job properly by followibg the directions listed in the Sticky to actually INSERT that attachment into your post as a thumbnail so that all can see it/it won't be lost - for most phones/devices, all it takes to do that is 3 more clicks/buttons to press, and then the platform software will auto-magically do any more re-sizing necessary as/when it displays &/or a viewer clicks on it to see it full size on their device. 😁

If you have attached a pic and posted it, before moving on to another post/thread, please take a moment to look at the post, you just submitted; read thru the text to see if you missed anything; and look at any pics before moving on. You should be able to edit your post to fix any issues, and if your pic is any bigger than almost all of the others on the site &/or if you can still see the word 'Attachment' above any of your pics in the post, then the chances are pretty high that you haven't finished the job of inserting the pics properly as thumbnails... The Mod/Admin Team will try to fix these/help if they come across any of these later, or if your post has been reported/the Mods have been advised via DM/email that some viewers wishing to see your pics are having problems, but you shouldn't expect them to do this for you more than a few times! The vast majority of posters here have no issues with managing to post thumbnails, and most of the few who do have initial problems generally manage to come to grips with those extra 3 clicks pretty quickly. So if you are still having issues after getting a couple of alerts like the one above, there's likely something odd going on &/or you might need some specific help, please contact me (preferably via DM) and I'll try to sort thru it with you. ;)

Good Luck!
