Last week, I download the latest update for my 24 RT. And I was hoping for the best since it stated there was a ACP improvement. My connection to ACP was hit or miss, and I don't know how fellow owners can get it to work, since most owners have their iPhone in their frunk. I mounted mine on the handle bar frame. I had to reroute the USB cable. After the update, it was still hit or miss connecting, so to the Internet I go.
I found a new sequence:
- First turn on the Spyder;
- Turn on your head set;
- Plug in your iPhone.
Unbelievably, it worked! So far, 3 times in a row. Now this is definitely different to what I read a year ago. Verified it at a BRP web page for connecting to ACP.
After the 4.1 BRP Connect update my 2024 Spyder RT has worked every time. I use a similar startup sequence, and while I'm confidant the Spyder has to be turned on first, I don't remember which I have been doing second, turning on my headset or connecting my iPhone. Yes, I'm sorry, but I haven't ridden since last week.
I was using a phone mount connected to a ball mount, but have switched to a QuadLock mount and case for my iPhone. The iPhone is then connected using an Apple Lightning cable to the USB port in the glove box. According to my Operators Guide the only USB ports on my 2024 Spyder RT are in the glove box and in the top case. The one in the glove box is where my iPhone plugs in for Apple CarPlay and power for my iPhone. There are two connectors in the top case, but they are power only.
Here's what setup currently looks like. The center thing is a docking station I got from Slingmods.com. It has a cable that connects to the accessory power port on the right side of my Spyder down by the right front wheel. It has two usb power ports on the left and one "cigarette lighter" type port on the right. The square thing in the middle is a mount for a Garmin Zumo XT GPS. Normally the mount is stored in the top case with the Garmin GPS and it's cable, and provides me a bit of comfort as I had some issues with Apple CarPlay prior to the 4.1 update.
The end September I'll be headed to the Appalachian Fall 2025 event in Kodak, TN and CarPlay will take me there, and will get even more of a workout the beginning of October at the Maggie Valley Spyder Adventures event. There are a bunch of planned rides for Maggie Valley, with downloadable Garmin GPX files for the rides. I've downloaded the GPX files into my iPhone for use with Apple CarPlay, and have also downloaded and synced them to my Garmin Zumo XT.
I created a couple of my own GPX files using the Google Maps application on my computer, synced them to my iPhone, and have successfully used them with my Spyder and also with my 2023 Honda Ridgeline, which also supports Apple CarPlay.
The QuadLock mount is on the far left and is where my iPhone goes.
