This Helmsman fell asleep at the helm!

Containership hit land doing about 15 knots and almost hit a house here in Norway.
As a crane operator (now retired) I handled a lot of units on this ship, but then it had a different name and was owned by another company.
I feel sorry for the guy at the helm, and I hope he is not punished too hard. I know those guys have strict work plans and not the best of work conditions.

Update: It has now been pulled off the land by tugboats and has been towed to port for discharging of all its cargo.
Then they will tow it to drydock for repairs.

Long ago I worked part time for the Port Authority of a major shipping port in Florida. Part of the job was to investigate things like that. Some of the things you find are almost unbelievable.

I've owned and piloted sailboats and motorboats. But even these don't turn on a dime or stop quickly.

For a good time, just go to any busy boat launch and watch the utter destruction. Not that I want people to wreck their boats, tow vehicles, trailers, etc. But if they are going to do it anyway...
